Small Update

3D Print, New Release, Writing Jam

Hi everyone,

This week I’ve been travelling so I’ve only got a small update for you. :)

Orc Marauders v2.50 Test

Over the past week or so, we’ve been having an interesting discussion on Discord about the way that the Orc Marauders work in Grimdark Future. The main points of discussion were how shooty vs choppy the army should really be, as well as what contributes to the orcs not feeling quite right for some players.

With that in mind, we created a new version of the Orc Marauders list for v2.50, which changes some of their core special rules to give them a different feel, as well as boosting their vehicles firepower. We’d be curious to get a broader community feedback on this change, so feel free to leave a comment. :)

Check out the beta army list by clicking here!

New Mission Packs

The June mission pack has been released on Patreon, with 4 brand new missions:

  • Grimdark Future – The Cave
  • GF: Firefight – Waves of War
  • Age of Fantasy – Sacred Temple
  • AoF: Skirmish – Clash of Heroes

These missions are focused on fun new ways to play, with interesting objectives and special rules to spice things up. We release new missions every month, so make sure to stick around so that you don’t miss any.

Note that whilst the missions are designed for each specific game, you can totally play them with the rules for any other game (with slight adjustments). This means that you have even more missions to play each month!

New Miniatures on Etsy

Don’t care for 2D printing or 3D printing? Well then we’ve got you covered, because now all of the minis we released in June have been uploaded to our Etsy Store.

New Free Model on Cults 3D

Every month we add new free models to our Cults3D page, and this month we’ve added a Vinci Militia from the Duchies of Vinci, bringing us up to 22 free models! :D

Game Balance v2.50 Preview

3D Print, Game Update, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Today we’ve got some exciting news, with a preview of some potential balance changes coming to the games in the future, as well as a couple of other new things for you!

Game Balance v2.50 (beta)

The games that we make are always evolving, and thanks to the feedback of our awesome community, we have been able to significantly improve the balance of our games over time.

Even though we have been releasing some major overhauls for some of the factions in the past few months, there are still some fundamental issues with how armies, weapons and special rules are currently set up, which can lead to some issues.

We have been talking with the community about potential balance changes for a while now, but we thought that it’s about time to show off what we’ve been cooking to gather some more feedback, and show in which direction the armies are going.

Most of the changes are actually quite subtle on paper, but we think will make a big difference whilst playing. For this post we’re going to focus on the two most important changes to the army lists in Grimdark Future.

The first change is that infantry defense values are being tweaked, changing all Def 2+ units to Def 3+, and tweaking the Tough values of certain units. To go with this tweak, we are also lowering the AP values and the Deadly values of certain weapons.

The second change is that weapon loadouts are being tweaked, making sure that units with Tough have enough firepower to compensate for their high cost. To go with this tweak, we are also lowering the range values of certain weapons, capping max. range at 36″.

These two changes alone should be enough to shake up the meta of the game, making sure that there isn’t such a huge gap between high defense armies and low defense armies (looking at you Battle Brothers). These changes also improve both the firepower and the durability of vehicles and monsters, making them worth their high cost.

There are lots more small changes, so try to see if you can spot them!

The army lists we’re showing off here are currently in beta and have no point costs, and they’re subject to change, so anything you see may look radically different by the time we officially release them.

It’s also important to note that whilst we’re currently only showing off Grimdark Future armies, there will also be tweaks to the Age of Fantasy armies, which we will get into once we have more of them done.

Check out the beta army lists by clicking here!

Community Translations

Over the past 6 months we’ve been getting loads of new awesome community translations for our games, and you can now find the games translated in Italian, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian! :D

Check them out here: https://forum.onepagerules.com/post/3408/thread

New Mission Packs Art

Since May we’ve been releasing 4 new missions for the games every month on Patreon, and we thought it would be cool to make some cover art for them to spice things up. The mission packs will only be available for patrons right now, but once we have enough missions for each game they will be sold separately. :)

New Free Model on Cults 3D

Every month we add new free models to our Cults3D page, and this month we’ve added an Automa Guard from the Duchies of Vinci, bringing us up to 21 free models! :D

King’s Wrath, New Releases & Batrep

2D Print, 3D Print, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Lately most of my game design time has been spent on Sellswords, so I haven’t been having a lot to update you on in terms of game updates. I’m currently considering doing an overhaul of some of the most problematic factions, but am not sure how exactly that fits in the overall plan for the games.

No matter what, I’ll keep you posted. :)

King’s Wrath on Kickstarter

This week Atlas3DSS has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their new VULCAN resin, and in partnership with them we’ve created a 3D print starter set called King’s Wrath, which gives you everything you need to get started, with two armies (30+ models), the basic rulebook, core rules sheet, paper terrain and play tokens!

If you have a 3D printer and you’re looking to get yourself some quality resin plus miniatures, then we highly recommend you check out VULCAN by Atlas3DSS on KS.

Hive City Mercenaries Released

A few days ago we also released a new set of paper miniatures, with the Hive City Mercenaries. This pack features a Bounty Hunter, Munitioner, Battle Doc, Gang Cook (with adorable rat helper) and a Battle Bot.

Check them out on Patreon (and get tons more stuff as well).

New Loyalty Rewards

Earlier this week we also revealed two new massive loyalty rewards, with the Alien Hives Hive Titan and the Duchies of Vinci Walking Fortress.

These are two absolutely massive models, and are available for Patreon subscribers that stay with us for 3+ months. What’s even cooler is that these are not just display pieces, but will get full rules as well, so get ready for madness!

New Batrep

That’s it for this week, hope you have a great weekend everyone. :)

FTL Campaign Rules + Mission Packs

2D Print, 3D Print, Game Jam, Game Update, New Release, Video Content

Hi everyone,

I’m going to try and keep this update short so as not to bore you, but we’ve got some important content updates for you. Right now we’re focusing on bringing more value for our Games & 2D Rewards patrons, as well as to bring new and exciting game content for everyone. It’s been a busy week, but what we got is awesome. :D

Let’s get to it!

OPR Game Jam #3 – Starting next week!

The third OPR game jam is starting next week, so make sure to save the date!

The OPR Game Jam is a 48hr game making marathon, focused on creating one-page miniatures games. The game jam runs from  May 14th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time, to May 16th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time.

Anyone can submit a game, and you may work alone or in teams. The games will then be judged by the public, and then we will highlight the top 3 voted games on the OPR website. There is no winner or prize, it’s all just for fun!

Sign up for the game jam here (it’s free): https://itch.io/jam/oprgj3

Warfleets FTL – Campaign Rules

After last week’s reveal of the AI rules for FTL, it’s now time for the next reveal. :)

The campaign rules for FTL were designed to be a simply adaptation of our tried and tested campaign rules, but of course with a spaceship battle twist to them. These rules give you multiple ways to set up campaigns to play with your friends, including a leveling up system and lots of random events.

Combining the campaign rules with the AI rules is actually a great way to play narrative solo campaigns, so if you don’t have anyone to play with make sure to check those out!

Grab the rules here: https://onepagerules.com/portfolio/warfleets-ftl/

New Mission Packs

This month we released the first mission pack on Patreon, with 4 brand new missions:

  • Grimdark Future – Storm Clash
  • GF: Firefight – The Dark Night
  • Age of Fantasy – Blood & Glory
  • AoF: Skirmish – Ghost Panic

These missions are focused on fun new ways to play, with interesting objectives and special rules to spice things up. We release new missions every month, so make sure to stick around so that you don’t miss any.

Note that whilst the missions are designed for each specific game, you can totally play them with the rules for any other game (with slight adjustments). This means that you have even more missions to play each month!

New Paper Terrain

To give players even more goodies, we’re now also permanently including paper terrain on Patreon, with new sets being released every few months. Right now we only have a sci-fi set available, but a new fantasy set will be released in May.

The terrain features 7 different pieces, with houses, containers and ruined walls, and it comes in 4 different varieties (urban, rusty, overgrown, snowy), so you get a total of 28 pieces to mix and match however you like!

The Bodyguards Gang Released

Speaking of 2D printing, we’ve also got a new set of paper minis on Patreon with the Bodyguards Gang and their adorable puppies!

New Physical Miniatures on Etsy

Don’t care for 2D printing or 3D printing? Well then we’ve got you covered, because now all of the minis we released in April have been uploaded to our Etsy Store.

Duchies of Vinci Rules + AI Rules Update

3D Print, Game Jam, Game Update, Video Content

Hi everyone,

April seems like it was an infinitely long month, with so many things happening that I can barely keep track anymore. We’ve released the April fools models, we had our 7 year anniversary, and we also released a brand new faction!

We’ve also had the fortune to be featured by a couple of big youtubers, which has really helped the project grow over the past month, and we’re going to make sure to give back to the community by further expanding our model ranges and providing more new content every month starting in May.

There’s lots of stuff to talk about, so let’s get to it!

OPR Game Jam #3 – Join Now!

It’s almost time for the next game jam already, so make sure to save the date!

The OPR Game Jam is a 48hr game making marathon, focused on creating one-page miniatures games. The game jam runs from  May 14th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time, to May 16th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time.

New Fantasy Army – Duchies of Vinci

It’s been a while since we released a new army, so it’s very exciting to bring you a brand new faction to play, which ties in with our newly released models on Patreon (check them out).

So, who are the Duchies of Vinci?

The Duchies of Vinci are highly reserved and guarded southern domains, which are some of the richest and most powerful lands in all of Tyria. Their armies consist of heavily armed ranged troops, assisted by a variety of mechanical creations with basic artificial intelligence.

They’re a very interesting army for Age of Fantasy, because they rely more on ranged troops and weird contraptions, rather than sheer melee strength. In fact, they’re probably one of the weakest melee factions, so make sure to keep your distance!

Due to the evolving nature of the miniatures we’re making for them, we expect there to be quite a few more changes to the army list in the future, and we’ll make sure to keep you updated as they come along. :)

AI Rules released for Warfleets: FTL

There have been lots of people asking for solo rules for FTL since the game was released, so today we’re happy to announce that a brand new set of AI rules has been released!

These AI rules are in many ways similar from the ones we released for the other games, with a few tweaks to make them work for FTL. Compared to the other games the FTL ones do require a bit more player input however, since there is no easy way to automate how specific the AI should be about pivoting and firing angles for example.

In any case these rules are good fun, and they’re a great way to get into the game if you don’t have anyone around to play, or to set up a coop match vs AI opponents. :)

Grab them from the game page here: https://onepagerules.com/portfolio/warfleets-ftl/

General AI Rules Update

Whilst working on the AI rules for FTL, we also went ahead and updated the AI rules for all of our other games. The changes aren’t huge, but they should help the flow of the match.

One of the biggest issues with the previous rules was that the AI was far too predictable, and so it was very easy to exploit it after coming to grips with it. This new version of the rules sets to improve that by making the activation order a bit more random, so that you can’t predict exactly what the AI is going to do next.

We’ve also added some other important changes, such as making the AI deployment a bit less swingy, as well as changing how the AI prioritizes targets to make a little more sense. Finally we’ve also added a new optional challenge bonus for the AI, which should help it out when it’s struggling to keep up with the player.

Mission Packs Coming

Starting in May, we’re going to be releasing 4 new missions every month on Patreon, one for each of our main games (that’s almost 50 missions a year). These missions will be focused on fun new ways to play, with interesting objectives and special rules to spice things up.

The plan is to release new missions every month, and then after a year we bundle them all in a pack and provide them for purchase on WGV, so if for whatever reason you’re not able to stick with us for a year, you’ll be able to get them later as well. We’re looking forward to this new addition, and hope you like it too! :D

New Free Model on Cults 3D

Every month we add new free models to our Cults3D page, and this month we’ve added a City Guard from the Duchies of Vinci, bringing us up to 20 free models! :D

Quick Post before the Weekend

3D Print, Game Update, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Today I’ve just got a quick post for you, going over some army updates, as well as some new releases, plus a new painting tutorial. :)

Let’s get to it!

Army Updates

Today we’ve updated the Ghostly Undead army, giving it a complete makeover, and making it one of the most fun armies that we have in the game now. If you’ve had some interest in playing Ghostly Undead before, but didn’t enjoy their gameplay that much, then we highly recommend you take a look at this new and improved version!

Here’s the full changelog:

  • Added new units: Coach Chariot, Ghost Chariot
  • Sands of Time now gives the hero and her unit Regeneration
  • The Reap rule now deals additional wounds on defense rolls of 1
  • Mounted Reapers now have 6 attacks and can upgrade with Spectral Touch
  • Ghost Knights can now be upgraded with Stolen Time and Ghostly Overseer
  • Executioners can now be upgraded with Fear
  • Banshees now have Quality 3+ as well as Ambush and Chilling
  • Wraiths now have Quality 3+ as well as Ambush and Reap
  • Scythed Ghosts now have the Chilling rule
  • Revenants now have the Whirl rule
  • Mourner Banshees now have the Poison and Chilling rules
  • Ghost Swarms now have Quality 4+
  • Hexed Knights now have Flying and Spectral Touch
  • Dread Knights now have Quality 3+ and AP(1)

Note that since some units from the Ghostly Undead cross over to the Vampiric Undead, we have updated them as well in order to reflect these new rules.

Saurians on Etsy

Every week we’re adding a new army on our Etsy store, and now you can buy physical prints of our Robot Legions models here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/onepagerules

The models come in one piece, so no assembly is required. We also charge a fixed shipping price, regardless of how many models you order!

Note that due to some bugs in the system, a few of the units are currently missing, but they will be added ASAP. :)

Patreon News

This week we released a new set of paper miniatures with the TAO Coalition, and they came out looking gorgeous! This is one of our bigger releases, with a bunch of models to customize your army and create interesting lists.

Additionally we have also released two new sets of Game Aids for the Dwarves and the Battle Sisters, which feature themed rulers, dice and objective markers (with beer barrels and weapon caches counting from 1 to 6).

Painting Tutorial

Last but not least, here’s a new video showing off how to paint one of our Robot Flesh-Eaters. Make sure to subscribe to Paintman Journeying for more painting tutorials, featuring the official OPR models!

That’s it from me today, have a nice weekend everyone! :D

I QUIT (my other job)

2D Print, 3D Print, Collaboration, Game Update, Podcast

Hi everyone,

As many of you already know, OPR is run fully and solely by one person, which is me (hi!).

For the past 7 years I’ve been working on OPR in my free time, and have never paid myself a single cent from the money we made via subscriptions or store sales. In my mind I’ve always seen that money as a vote of confidence on your part, and it felt wrong to take that money for myself when I could instead invest it into providing you all with more content.

That was all very easy to manage whilst OPR was pretty small, but over the last few years the project has skyrocketed in popularity and has grown to be one of the top 10 biggest wargaming Patreons in the world, and by now this is in no way a one-man project anymore. Whilst I still take care of the majority of things, there are lots of people I hire to do stuff that I can’t, such as all of the awesome illustrations, paper miniatures and 3D print miniatures, and by now there are 10-15 people involved in OPR’s production every month.

I tried as hard as I could to keep doing this in my free time whilst still working a full-time job, which admittedly has not been very good for my own health over the past year, and so I’ve decided to finally pull the trigger and quit my job to dedicate myself to OPR full-time. By now OPR brings in enough money that I can pay myself a regular salary without having to feel guilty about compromising on releases, so don’t worry about things slowing down.

If anything, this means that I’ll now have more time to dedicate myself to OPR without going absolutely insane, and hopefully I’ll be able to improve my work-life balance as well, which has been suffering for too long now. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to do this, and hope that I can continue to provide you all with awesome games, miniatures, and more in the future. Thank you all for your support!

Alright, enough of that now, let’s get to the meat of this news post. :)

New Army Updates

Today we’re continuing with our army refresh updates, tackling the Infected Colonies. Until now this army was serviceable, but was lacking some oomph, with most units feeling very samey. In this new version we’ve overhauled the majority of units in the army, and have also added an army-wide Undead special rule to spice things up.

Here’s the full changelog:

  • Added new unit: Runners
  • All units now have the Undead rule
  • Hunter Champion and Hunters lost Fast but gained Ambush
  • Infected Champion now has Plague Command
  • Scientists can now upgrade to Psychic(2)
  • Zombies now have Regeneration
  • Infected Dogs now have Scout and Rending
  • Boomers now have more attacks and Poison
  • Chelonians now have more attacks and new upgrades
  • Infected Swarms now have Strider and Blast(3)
  • Ravens now have an additional AP(1) attack
  • Vultures now have Ambush and new upgrades

Speaking of the Undead rule, over time we’ve found that this has become one of the most valuable special rules in the game, and that it gave a little bit too much staying power to your units. In order to balance things out a little, units now take wounds from Undead on rolls of 1-2, instead of only on rolls of 1.

Here’s all of the armies that have been updated:

  • Grimdark – Havoc Brother Disciples
  • Fantasy – Ghostly Undead
  • Fantasy – Mummified Undead
  • Fantasy – Ossified Undead
  • Fantasy – Shadow Stalkers
  • Fantasy – Vampiric Undead

OnePageFools Podcast – Episode 3

The latest episode of the unofficial OPR podcast is available now, this time featuring none other than Ethan Seward, the brilliant illustrator behind all of our paper miniatures!

Robot Legions on Etsy

Every week we’re adding a new army on our Etsy store, and now you can buy physical prints of our Robot Legions models here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/onepagerules

The models come in one piece, so no assembly is required. We also charge a fixed shipping price, regardless of how many models you order!

New Free Models on Cults 3D

Every month we add new free models to our Cults3D page, and this month we’ve added a Saurian Guardian as well as a Robot Flesh-Eater, bringing us up to 19 free models! :D

Patreon News

On the Patreon side of things, this week we released the final chapter of Darkness Within, our Age of Fantasy narrative campaign, which will be available exclusively on Patreon until the end of March. If you are interested in reading an awesome story set in the AoF universe, or are looking for new ways to play, make sure to check it out!

This week we also released our third set of Hive City Gangs paper miniatures, with the Miners Gang. The miniatures feature gangers with different mining equipment and weapons, as well as two trusty canine sidekicks.

This month our friends at Bite the Bullet were so kind to provide all of our Tier 2 patrons with an extra model as a free gift, with the fierce Kalista the Gladiator.

Find out more here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/48494745

Finally, speaking of 3D models, this week we’ve added two sets of themed bases for Dwarves and Battle Sisters, so all of our supporters can enjoy a total of 88 unique bases!

That’s it for today, thanks again for all of your support throughout these years! :D

Game Updates, Etsy Store, Painting Videos + More

3D Print, Game Update, Video Content, Writing Jam

Hi everyone,

Over the last week I’ve been extremely busy putting together a lot of new and exciting stuff for you. We’ve got some small but important game updates for you, as well as some army updates. We’ve now got a store where you can buy our models if you don’t have a 3D printer, and we’ve partnered up to create painting videos for our models.

On top of that I’ve been working hard on a lot of new patreon stuff, with a massive release for next month, adding a ton of new stuff like themed bases and game aids, as well as continuing the development of sellswords and the new arena updates. March is going to be a great month in terms of both games and models, so today’s update is just the beginning of lots of cool things to come.

Anyway, let’s get to it!

Writing Jam Submissions – Vote Now!

Last weekend we ran the 2nd ever OPR Writing Jam, and now it’s time to get your votes in. There’s lots of cool stories to read, so make sure to check them all out and give your honest feedback: https://itch.io/jam/oprwj2/entries

Game & Army Updates

Today we’ve updated all of the core rules, basic rulebooks, full rulebooks, starter sets and quickplay rules with a couple of small things that should hopefully clear up some of the most commonly asked questions, as well as provide a little more balance to the game.

Snipers don’t ignore cover anymore, giving units a slightly higher chance to survive if they stay in cover, which should be especially useful in Firefight and Skirmish. The Phalanx rule has also been modified, making it more useful against cavalry units and chariots, which should raise their value a bit more for their high price.

We’ve also updated the Robot Legion rules, giving Wardens a bit more utility with a new special rule, as well as modifying Support Platforms and the Fortress of Destruction to cover some models that were not playable before. The Blessing of Change rule has also been modified, hopefully giving players a bit more of chance to compete with Disciples of Changes at shorter ranges.

Here’s the full list of changes:

Grimdark + Fantasy – General Rules

  • Clarified the Indirect and Tough rules
  • Sniper doesn’t ignore cover anymore
  • Phalanx now ignores special rule effects from charging

Grimdark + Fantasy – Campaign Rules

  • Heroes now become 5pts cheaper/costlier when they gain an injury/talent trait

Grimdark + Fantasy – Disciples of Change

  • Blessing of Change now only affects enemies over 18″ away

Grimdark – Robot Legions

  • Wardens and their unit now ignore the Slow rule
  • Doom Tanks now have 36″ range on their Doom Cannon
  • Tripod Robots now have AP(4) and Blast(3) on their Doom Blaster
  • Support Platforms can now have an Overseer Pilot
  • Fortress of Destruction can now have a Nanobot Wraith-Shard

Etsy Store Open Now!

Don’t have a 3D printer and want our models? Take a look at our new Etsy Store, where you can buy the models already printed for you: https://www.etsy.com/shop/onepagerules

The models come in one piece, so no assembly is required. We also charge a fixed shipping price, regardless of how many models you order!

Right now only the Alien Hives models are available, but we’re planning on adding one new army every week, so that within a few weeks the store will be complete. :)

Patreon News

This week we’ve had a couple of new releases on Patreon, with the 2D Havoc Dwarves and Alliance Fleet, as well as chapter 4 of Darkness Within, plus rules for Havoc Dwarves i arena.

If you’ve had your eyes on Warfleets: FTL for a while, now is your last chance to get it before it’s moved to WargameVault in a few days, where it will be sold at a higher price.

Finally we’ve made a post detailing the March Previews + Roadmap, and it’s going to be a glorious month, with $275+ worth of stuff for just $10!

OPR Painting Videos

This month we’ve also partnered up with Paintman Journeying on YouTube to bring you regular painting videos featuring our models. We highly recommend you subscribe to the channel to see the videos as soon as they’re released!

AoF:R Strategy Video

This week Stonehorse Gaming also posted a strategy video talking about unit threat ranges. If you’re looking for some strategic tips, then he’s got you covered! :)

OPR Featured In Ravage Magazine

Last but not least, this month OPR has been featured in Ravage Magazine, so for all of you French speakers out there make sure to check it out!

New Early Access Game: Sellswords

We’ve been teasing the release of our next game for a long time, but now the day has finally come and the first draft of Sellswords is available in early access on Patreon.

What is Sellswords you ask?

Sellswords is a solo/coop skirmish adventure game set in our fantasy universe, and it combines wargame elements with RPG elements to give you a truly unique experience that can be played with any fantasy miniatures you have!

Up to 4 players join together to form a band of sellswords, bold mercenaries hired to do all sorts of dangerous jobs, as well as a colorful variety of different companions, who set off on adventures fighting monsters, uncovering mysteries, and finding precious loot.

Each hero can be customized with a variety of stats, equipment and skills, giving you everything you need to create the perfect character for your miniatures. Throughout the game heroes will earn XP and level up their abilities, as well as potentially earn lasting injuries or even die if something goes terribly wrong (the world is a dangerous place).

To play the game you’ll need a small 2’x2′ space, as well as a handful of monster miniatures, which are controlled by the game. The game is designed with full miniature-agnosticism in mind, so you will be able to adapt the rules to fit what you have.

Right now the game is still in development, and as we progress we will be showing off different ways to play, from narrative campaigns to a full-fledged custom campaign creator.

We’re really happy to finally be moving the development of Sellswords forward, as we know many of you have been itching for a dungeon crawling RPG-like game for a while now, and we hope you’ll like it. :)

Support us on Patreon to access the early access draft, and get a ton more stuff as well.
