Community Survey Results + More

Community Survey, Game Update, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Last week we ran a community wide survey, asking you all for you input on the games, the armies, the project as a whole, and much more. We’re happy to say that we got a ton of responses, and they are super interesting. :D

Let’s get to it!

Community Survey Results

Alright everyone, it’s time to take a look at the community survey results. Since this time we had a couple more questions, I am going to give a quicker rundown of the results, just so this post doesn’t get too long.

Top 5 Voted:

  • Mech Combat
  • Customizable Skirmish
  • Small-Scale Sci-Fi
  • Cyberpunk
  • Post-Apocalyptic

The trend seems to be pretty in line with our last survey results, but I do find it interesting that there are so many votes for customizable skirmish. I am wondering if maybe the way that the idea is titled might be giving different people different ideas of what that means, so if those that voted could leave a comment with what they expect, it would be really helpful.

This one is also very aligned with the usual trends, with Battle Brothers, Alien Hives, Robot Legions and HDF at the top, closely followed by Orc Marauders, Havoc Brothers and TAO.

Fantasy remains stable, with a much more even spread of factions played across the board. It’s sad to see that Volcanic Dwarves actually lost players, going from 4.8% on the last survey down to 1%.

The graph is a little deceiving because it has two purple sections with almost the same color, but the 24.8% one is actually “I would like to play OPR games, but still haven’t had the chance”. It’s nice to see that even with the pandemic, people are able to get in at least a couple of games a month.

As expected, the majority of people play at home, whilst the rest is evenly split between online matches and store/club games. It’s interesting to see that the percentage of online games is much much smaller than the in person games, because when looking around on discord people mostly talk about their online matches, so it sometimes give me the impression that not many people are getting to play at home.

This one was also quite expected, with most people playing pick-up matches and narrative/campaign games, and almost nobody playing tournament games. It would be fun to get some sort of tournament organized as the games get more balanced, maybe it could be done online or at some point once restrictions are lifted.

I’m not sure what to think of this one, because I suppose that most people that play competitively are also looking to play with balanced armies, so maybe the way that the question was phrased was not right. In any case, it’s interesting to see that there are 17.9% of you that ignore points balance, wasn’t expecting that.

Another one that was quite expected, but still interesting to see. Most people play with physical models from other companies, and only a small percentage play with paper minis. The spread of 3D models is pretty even, which I would assume is because 3D printing players often mix and match between minis from different creators.

Last but not least, the open feedback box. As always, everyone has been super sweet and shown their love for the projeect, and I really really appreciate it. At the end of the day, I do this for you peeps, so it’s awesome to see people happy! :D

Now, let me go over some of the most frequently mentioned feedback:

  • Army Roster App – There is currently work being done on a webapp that is going to allow you to easily put together your lists to play, as well as allow you to create your own army lists (using the point calculator) and easily share them with the community. No idea when it will be done, but stay tuned.
  • Dungeon Crawler – Lots of you asked about the making of a solo/coop dungeon crawl game, and we’re actually working on that right now, with a game called Sellswords. The game is still in early access on Patreon, and we’re hoping to get that done and released to the public soon!
  • Small-Scale Games/Models – As per the games results above, we know that lots of players enjoy small-scale games, and we haven’t been idle about that. We are working on a new line of small-scale models as we speak, and once we’ve released Sellswords, we will focus on a small-scale game as well.
  • More Original Armies – Many of you asked if we could make more original armies, and we’re happy to say that we do plan on releasing more new armies soon. We’d like to first complete the armies we already started, but then we want to alternate between a classic army and an original army. We’re also going to put more effort into making sure that even our classic armies have a much more unique feel, so that they truly belong to OPR.
  • Printable Terrain – We’re currently in the early stages of producing our first 3D printable terrain sets, but if you’re into papercraft, then you can already get paper terrain sets by OPR on Patreon and WGV/DTRPG. We currently have a grimdark set ready, and are working on the release of a fantasy set as well.

That’s it for now, there was lots of other feedback, but with 100+ messages I won’t be able to list them all here. Nonetheless, I’ve read every single one of them, and I am happy to say that many of your wishes will come true in the future, keep your eyes peeled. :)

New Loyalty Reward Units

Last month we revealed our new loyalty rewards, and now we finally have rules for them!

Check out the Alien Hives for the Hive Titan rules, and the Duchies of Vinci for the Walking Fortress rules. These two massive behemoths are truly a sight to behold, as are true forces of destruction on the tabletop. :D

FTL on Patreon Again

Warfleets: FTL was originally developed on Patreon under the early access label, meaning that once the game has been completed, it would be removed and only be available for sale on our WGV/DTRPG stores.

Well, after many many fan requests, we have decided to bring Warfleets: FTL back on Patreon, making it a permanent reward like our other Full Rulebooks. We think that it’s worth it to give new players a chance to discover the game like that, and we also having something new cooking to be revealed later…

Arena Games Moved

As announced last week, the OPR Arena games are now officially on hiatus, and we have removed them from the main games page, as well as from our WGV/DTRPG stores.

Don’t worry though, if you’re into arena, you can still find it in the One-Off Games.

Community Survey, Arena Hiatus, v2.50 Explained

Community Survey, General Update, Video Content

Hi everyone,

This week we’ve got tons of stuff for you, with a new Community Survey for you, some updates on our Arena Games, as well as a long-form explanation for the v2.50 changes.

Let’s get to it!

Community Survey

Every 6 months we run a community survey to get a general feel for what sort of players are currently interested in OPR, and to give everyone an opportunity to send in their feedback/suggestions anonymously.

This is a super quick 3-question survey that only takes a few minutes to fill in, and we’ll be keeping it open for a week, with the results being revealed to the public in next week’s post.

Take the survey here: https://forms.gle/k1zGPsmdhR5RzvhG8

Arena Games Hiatus

This month we’ve released our last arena warband on Patreon, and we have some news.

With this warband, we have now completed the 3rd seasons of our arena games, and as previously discussed we have decided to take a break from the games indefinitely, instead of launching into 4th season in July.

It was really fun to work on these games for the past 9 months, but unfortunately they haven’t been able to really find an audience, and in their current format we don’t think that they fit into the OPR ecosystem like our other games.

Because of this 3rd season won’t be available for sale on WGV, and we’ll be removing seasons 1+2 from WGV as well, to make sure that people don’t buy into a game that they expect new seasons for. Don’t worry though, all of the rules and warbands will continue to be available on our website, so that you can still share the games with friends.

If you’re interested in continuing to develop new warbands for arena, we recommend supporting us on Patreon, where the warband creator will be available until the end of June.

We’re going to keep thinking about how we can re-work the arena games to turn them into something that can be enjoyed by a bigger part of our community, so fingers crossed that one day we’ll have more news for you arena fans. :)

Balance v2.50 Explained

Last week we revealed that we’ve been working on new versions of our army lists, which are meant to re-balance the game and improve the gameplay on multiple fronts (see here).

We’ve already received a lot of feedback from the community, which has been great, but there have also been a lot of players that are curious about the reasoning behind the various changes, and how they’re meant to improve the games.

In order to avoid making this update extremely long, we’ve created a PDF with a compilation of all the major changes and the reasoning behind them, which should hopefully give you a better idea of where we’re coming from.

Check it out here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GBXf_2PNmvORxUVl41OCC1CQU-UBzrpM/view?usp=sharing

Please note that all of these changes are not final yet, so you can expect the lists to be wildly different by the time that we are ready to fully release them to the public.

That’s it for this week, don’t forget to fill out the survey and have a nice weekend. :)

Darkness Within, Survey Results, Gangs Updates

2D Print, 3D Print, Collaboration, Community Survey, Painting Contest

Hi everyone,

Today we’ve got a bunch of cool stuff for you, with a teaser for Darkness Whitin, results for last week’s Community Survey, a ton of new Gang Units, plus some news for 3D Printing as well as a brand new 2D Print Collaboration.

Let’s get to it!

Darkness Within

December saw the completion of the Jakob’s Path narrative campaign for Grimdark Future, so starting in January we’ve got a brand new Age of Fantasy narrative campaign coming at you called Darkness Within.

Find out more by clicking here…

Community Survey Results

Every 6 months we’re happy to make a community survey, where players get the chance to tell us what they want to see in the future, share which armies they play, and provide any feedback they have.

Usually we also have some extra questions about other stuff, but this time we decided to keep the survey lean and simple, focusing on the things that matter to us the most.

Let’s see what results we got. :D

Which of these settings would you be interested in for new full games?

Alright, this is the big one, as it guides the development of our next games, and it seems that we got pretty much the same results as in our last survey, except that this time “Customizable Skirmish” has also shot it’s way to the top, and we’ve got a lot of votes for a One-Page RPG as well, which is not the norm.

Here’s the top 5 highlighted:

  • Small-Scale Sci-Fi – 37.5%
  • Mech Combat – 35.6%
  • Customizable Skirmish – 32.9%
  • Cyberpunk – 28.8%
  • One-Page RPG – 21.9%

Let’s break down what we’ve been planning for the future, since it’s going to be pretty much in line with the survey results:

  • Very soon we’ll have a One-Page RPG system coming as a one-off game, to test the waters and see how people like our approach to the genre. If we see that it gets a good response, then we might expand that into a full game in the future.
  • Then we’ve got a new Skirmish Adventure Game that we’ve been trying to develop over the past couple of months, which will also scratch a bit of that RPG itch, but most importantly it will be in line with the results from the last survey.
  • For Mech Combat, right now we’re working on revising the FTL rules, and once that is done and we’ve got the full game released, we’ll be working on a Mech Combat game that uses a modified version of the same engine.
  • For Small-Scale Sci-Fi, that’s something that we’ve been thinking about for a very long time, and we’re probably going to build a system that uses a similar model as FTL, where you have a core set of units types and customization options, plus 5-6 factions that can be further customized (instead of 20+ army books).
  • For Cyberpunk, we’ve currently got the Double Tap rules as a one-off, and would be very happy to expand those into a full game, so that’s definitely coming some day. Honestly with the development speed we have we’re not sure if it’ll be possible in 2021, but we’ll try.
  • Finally, for Customizable Skirmish, we’ve had some ideas on how we could expand on WarStuff to make it a little more fun and customizable, whilst also adding some new ways to play, and we’re planning on working on that as a side-project since it doesn’t take up as much time as developing other games.

That’s it on the games side, now onto the next two questions:

Which Grimdark Future armies do you play?

On the Grimdark Future side things are pretty stable as usual, with lots of Battle Brothers players dominating the landscape. It’s really cool to see that we’ve got some people that are playing the armies we’ve done in collaboration with TMC and TEO, and we’re hoping to do more in the future!

Which Age of Fantasy armies do you play?

With Age of Fantasy we also have more or less similar results as in the last survey, with a much more balanced distribution of armies played. It’s also cool to see that some people are playing the just recently released Giant Tribes, which are definitely a niche army.

Do you have any suggestions for things we should do with OPR (new games, armies, features, etc.)?

Finally, the open question is always a delight, since we get such a diverse range of feedback, questions, suggestions, and more. There’s also always a bunch of you who use this opportunity to thank us for making the games, which is very heart warming, and actually I have to thank you for making this possible. This project truly couldn’t exist without it’s fans, and I’m happy that we have such a nice community! :D

Now onto some of the feedback, I’ll try to keep it brief:

  • Some people have asked us if your focus will shift from games to miniatures, and the answer is a very decisive no. The miniatures are a great way for us to further establish our own settings, to provide fans with something cool, and to provide funding for the project, but that’s it. Whilst we definitely want to keep expanding and improving our miniatures, we have no intention to stop focusing on the games. We provide regular updates to all of our games, and currently have 3 games in early access, with more coming in the future, so we’ve actually ramped up our game development as well. So don’t worry about the games, lots of stuff is coming your way!
  • Lots of people commented that they’d like to see more stuff like Gang Wars but for the other games, like a Mordheim-style game, or Crusade-style rules. That’s definitely something that we’re planning on doing, so it’s just a matter of time before it’s released.
  • There’s also lots of people that have suggested we do map-based campaigns, and that’s also something that we’ve already been planning on doing, so it’s just a matter of time before we get to it.
  • Some people have asked us to provide solo-rules for our games, but actually we already have solo-rules for all of our 5 mainline games. This probably means that the information is not displayed well on the website, and we’ll have to take a look at how to make things more visible.
  • In addition to that, a lot of people have asked for a solo/coop skirmish dungeon exploration game, and as we mentioned above, we’ve got a Skirmish Adventure Game in the works which is exactly that.
  • There were some people who asked if it’s possible to play our games online, and it definitely is! We have an active community of players that use Roll20 and TTS, so make sure to join our Discord server to set up games.
  • Some people asked if we have plans to release 100% original OPR armies for 3D printing, and that’s also something we’ve been planning on doing. Right now we’re going to be doing 2 regular army releases followed by 1 original army release, so you can look forward to that.
  • Finally, a lot of people have said that they enjoy the little snippets of lore we provide, and that they’d like to see more. Well, fret not, as we’ve got a whole series of campaigns coming out which take place in our game universes, so there’s lots of lore coming you way.

I’d like to thank everyone who took part in the survey once more, and we’ll be back with another community survey in about 6 months when we can catch up again! :D

New Gang Units

With Gang Wars being currently available on Patreon, we’ve decided to go back and re-visit the Gangs of Hive City army list, adding 20 new units for the existing gangs, as well as adding a completely new mercenaries gang, which features units that can be taken by any gang to bolster their abilities.

  • The Cult – Mutant Shamblers, Bomb Rats

Collaboration with Chimeric Creations

Chimeric Creations was actually started by one of our community members Murmillo, who has been working toward creating fantasy miniatures that can be used to play miniature wargames and RPG’s. This set actually works perfectly to play a Dark Elf warband in AoF: Skirmish, or even build a small Dark Elf army for AoF!

New Arena Covers

We’ve been pretty happy with how our arena games turned out, and as we release new content for them on Patreon every month, they have grown to be very fun.

That being said, we felt that the cover art for the games was not really up to the standard of quality of our other games, and so we decided to re-work it into something awesome. :D

Download the rulebooks with the new cover art here:

Season 2 is currently in its last month of development, and will be available to the public in January, along with some awesome new cover art for it as well!

Free Gift by White Werewolf Tavern for Tier 2 patrons

Tier 2 patrons can download them here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/43388557

White Werewolf Tavern is a small team that provides awesome fantasy tabletop miniatures for wargames and RPG’s. They have a Patreon where they release new models every month, and patrons also get a 30% discount code to their MMF Store. If  this wasn’t enough, they also provide gorgeous busts of their models, which are perfect for painters.

We’re very happy to be doing a collaboration with them, so make sure to check them out, they have super high quality miniatures which fight right in to play Age of Fantasy: Skirmish!

Cthulu Cult 2 by Barry Linck

If that wasn’t enough, this month we’re continuing our collaboration with Barry Linck, who makes awesome comics in his own quirky style: https://www.patreon.com/phinmagic

Community Survey Results + More

3D Print, Community Survey

Hi everyone,

This week we’re gonna be sharing the community survey results, a development roadmap for FTL, a new bundle, some news about what’s coming in August on Patreon and more.

This is going to be another big one, so let’s get to it!

Community Survey Results

Last week we promised you the community survey results in our insanely big update, and now finally the time has come to reveal your thoughts. This was the biggest community we ever did, with just over 350 responses before we closed it, and it’s really great to see the community grow and come together like this. :D

Now then, let’s get to the results.

When it comes to the game jam frequency it’s interesting to see that from the players that are actually interested there is an almost 50-50 split as to who wants the game jam every 6 months, and who wants it every 12 months.

Seeing how there is a demand for it, we’re going to try out making it every 6 months to see how it goes, and those that prefer to participate only once a year can still do that.

With that in mind, we have changed the date for the next game jam, and it is now planned to run from November 13th to November 15th, and you can sign up already here: https://itch.io/jam/oprgj2

This question was more out of personal curiosity, but it’s interesting to see that only about 1/4th of players use Instagram for wargaming, which is funny seeing how it’s one of the biggest social media platforms in the world.

Anyway, as always with surveys these results could be flawed though, so maybe the reason why the results are so low is exactly because we don’t currently have an Instagram presence, but maybe if we did then we’d be attracting those players, which would bring the numbers up.

When we added this question we really didn’t know what to expect, but it’s interesting to see that there’s at least 40% of players interested in a Kickstarter campaign. This definitely gives us the confidence to give the platform a try, and whilst we don’t have anything planned yet, you might see an OPR Kickstarter in the future.

Now for the most interesting part, new games. Unfortunately google forms kind of cuts some of the name of the options when loading the graphic, so here’s the top 10 voted games:

  • Dungeon Crawler – 47.5%
  • Mech Combat – 44.6%
  • Small-Scale Sci-Fi – 41.7%
  • Cyberpunk – 30.4%
  • Hex Arena Combat – 28.1%

What’s funny to note is that we threw the Dungeon Crawler option in there as an afterthought, and it ended up being the most voted one after all, who would’ve thought. Anyway, these results are pretty different from the last community survey, with only Dungeon Crawling and Cyberpunk still at the top, whilst everything else is new.

Looking at this list there’s definitely some game ideas we have to create interesting experiences, so you can expect some of these to become a reality in the future. :)

It’s also worth mentioning that we had an open text field where people could put their own suggestions, but all of the suggestions were so different that it makes no sense to list them here. The only one that was suggested multiple times was Napoleonic, so maybe in the next survey we’ll add it as an option to see if people vote for it.

Moving onto the army charts, on the Grimdark Future side things have remained mostly the same since the last community survey, with no big increase or decrease in player counts for any army.

On the Age of Fantasy side things are also pretty stable, with the exception of the Chivalrous Kingdoms falling behind by a bit, whilst some of the newer factions slowly wrestle their way to the top.

Final Thoughts

We love having the community survey, it gives us a great insight into the mind of our players, and how they enjoy the wargaming hobby in general.

At the end of the survey we left an open text box, and whilst there were far too many things said there to address right now, here’s a couple of the things that people mentioned most often, and our thoughts:

  • 3D Print-on-Demand: Some players suggested that we start collaborating with 3D print companies to give people without 3D printers the option to buy our models. We’ve actually been in talks with a couple of them, and if we can get you a good deal, then you can expect something like that in the future (no promises though).
  • TTS Models: Some other players suggested that we start create an official OPR mod on TTS and provide our 3D models for playing there, which honestly we had never thought about, but will look into. Again, no promises, but we’ll see what we can do.
  • Online List Builder: Thanks to the exceptional work of Darguth, there are a ton of armies for both GF and AoF already available on BattleScribe to help you build your lists (check it out here). Now some players suggested that we make our own online list builder, and whilst it would be great, we don’t know that it’s worth the investment. It would take a lot of time and money to develop, which we generally think might be better spent on developing new stuff, instead of re-doing something that already exists with BattleScribe. Never say never, but right now there are no plans to develop something like that.
  • Video Battle Reports: This is something we’ve had people request for a long time, so let’s dig into it. Now a lot of you might not know this, but OPR is fully created and run by just 1 person (hi!) living in a tiny apartment and with a full-time job. Even if I wanted to start making battle reports, it would not cost a lot of money and time to make, but I would also have to either move or find a studio space. Then I’d need to get a good table, lighting, armies, camera, etc. to make the whole thing look great. That’s simply not possible. I’ve already contacted countless creators on YouTube, and everyone is too busy creating their own content, so they’re not up for any sort of partnership with us. If you want to see GF battle reports, your best bet is to check out the ones made by Wyloch’s Armory, which are awesome.

There were also a TON of people that sent us a lot of compliments, and we’d like to thank everyone for the kind words and their awesome suggestions. Working on this project is a dream come true, and none of this would be possible without you, so you are the real heroes that should be thanked! :D

FTL Status Update

FTL has now been in early access for 1 month (yay!), so we thought it’s time to give an update.

Right now we’ve got all of the core rules, ship types, heroes, upgrades, weapons and squadron types ready, and we’ve moved on to work on the faction’s book.

There are going to be 6 factions in the game, and we’ve decided to release the factions in phases so that we can take a good look at them, get some playtesting done, etc.

If everything goes well here is the plan:

  • 05/08 – Empire vs Alliance
  • 12/08 – Marauders vs Nomads
  • 19/08 – Progenitors vs Xenos

As we release these piece by piece we’ll also start working on the full rulebook, hopefully getting the beginner’s guide done by the end of August, and then doing advanced rules by the beginning of September.

The goal is to try and get the game “ready” by end of September, completing the 3-month development cycle, at which point the core rules will go out to the public so that we can get as much feedback as possible, and we’re thinking that we’d like to wait at least 3-6 months before we can consider the game to be fully stable.

As part of the release of the game you can expect some awesome 2D and 3D models, but more on that later…

One last thing, over the course of development we realized that the game was pretty similar to Warfleets, so we decided re-name the game from Faster than Light to Warfleets: FTL. In order to avoid future confusion we have re-named the current Warfleets back to Orion’s Gate. This change will allow us to treat Warfleets as a game engine, which can then be adapted to different settings. Think Warfleets: Fantasy or Warfleets: Naval Battles.

Vile Rattus Cult Army

Last week we saw the successful funding of the Vile Rattus Cult Kickstarter campaign, and with that we’ve now released the Vile Rattus Cult army lists for Grimdark Future and GF: Firefight.

In celebration we’ve created a bundle with all of the ratmen heroes made by ThatEvilOne for OPR, which you can now get at a 33% discount: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-model-collections/ratmen-heroes-bundle

August Patreon Goodies

In August we’re starting to offer a 20% Discount Code to all of our Tier 3 supporters, as well as a welcome pack with 3D print tokens and a 3D printable ruler for you to play with.

Here’s all the goodies you can expect:

  • Warfleets: FTL
  • Jakob’s Path: Chapter 2

AoF: Regiments on WargameVault

This week we put up the last one of our Full Rulebooks up on WargameVault, meaning that all of them are available for purchase there. It’s still much cheaper to get them on Patreon, but if you can’t subscribe for whatever reason, at least now you have the option to buy them separately. :)

Get the rulebook by clicking HERE.

Forum Update

Finally we wanted to give you an update on the forum change from Discourse to Proboards.

The migration process has started, with us changing the url and activating the ad-free version, so you can expect for the forum to be fully functional in the coming days.

Whilst the final url will stay the same (forum.onepagerules.com), it’s going to take a while for the change to happen, so in the meantime you can still use the old one: https://onepagerules.proboards.com/

We’re actually really happy to be switching back to Proboards, the interface might be a little more “old school” but we find it much easier to navigate. PROTIP: use http://forum.onepagerules.com/posts/recent to see the latest posts.

That’s it for today, during the next couple of days I’m going to be travelling, so I might be a little slow to answer any questions, so let’s hope nothing major breaks during that time. :D

Happy Wargaming!

Community Survey, Online Point Calculator, Battle Report + More

3D Print, Community Survey, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Today we’ve got the bi-annual community survey for you, info about the online point calculator beta, a grimdark future batrep, as well as lots of other info about new releases.

Let’s get to it!

Community Survey

Every 6 months we like to take give everyone in our community a chance to provide some feedback on our project via an online survey (see the last survey results here), and it seems like it’s about time again.

Please take a moment to fill it out here: https://forms.gle/yWEw2q3PLgr3KLcFA

The survey will run for one week, and then we will post the results here again. :)

Online Point Calculator (BETA)

We’ve been talking about providing a web-based version of our point calculators for far too long, but we’re happy to be able to finally actually release the first beta!

The online point calculator allows you to create custom units quickly and with ease, taking away all the tedious math so that you can get creative ASAP.

Check it out: http://pointcalc.onepagerules.com/

This is still a beta, and currently there are only point costs for GF/GFF, but we’re working on improving the app as well as adding in AoF/AoFS. Please provide us with any and all feedback possible, it really helps!

Grimdark Future Battle Report

It’s been a very long time since we posted a batrep, but the amazing Wyloch has finally come around and made another video, this time featuring a 2500pts match of Robot Legions vs High Elf Fleets.

If you’ve never heard of him before, make sure to check out his Grimdark Future Batrep Playlist, with 12 awesome battle reports featuring all sorts of armies and game modes.

Vile Rattus Kickstarter

The Vile Rattus Kickstarter Campaign by ThatEvilOne is coming along very nicely, funding in just 30 minutes and already having reached a couple of stretch goals!

Check it out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thatevilone/cult-of-vile-rattus-a-cheese-stealer-cult

He already posted a couple of updates with new model previews, as well as confirming that pre-supported files will be provided, which sounds pretty damn good. :)

These models are going to be available exclusively on Patreon until the 30th of July, after which they will go up for sale on our CGTrader store at a higher price.

Free Jetpack Sisters on Thingiverse

Another week, another free model release on Thingiverse, this time with the gorgeous Jetpack Sisters and their wings, really a stunning model we’re happy to have in our range. :D

Check it out: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4542225

Please make sure to follow our page and give the model a like, it really helps out!

Grimdark Future: Firefight available on WargameVault

Continuing with our uploads of games on WargameVault, this week we’ve released GFF on there.

The rulebook is still much cheaper to get directly on Patreon, however we are making it available elsewhere for those that can’t become patrons due to different restrictions.

Get the rulebook by clicking HERE.

Forum Switch Incoming

Finally we wanted to remind everyone that the current forum is going to be deleted at the end of the month, and we’re going to be reverting to the old forum. Make sure to save all your stuff and transfer it from one forum to the other before it gets lost in the void!

Once the month is over we’ll be doing the switch, which will take some time to get the correct URL to be working and have the ads removed, but after that it should run smoothly again. :)

That’s it for today, once again lots of stuff! Make sure to answer the community survey, and we’ll be happy to share the results with you next week.

Happy Wargaming!

3D Print Results + Army Updates

3D Print, Community Survey, Game Update, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Today we’re coming back at you with the 3D print survey results, as well as some much needed army updates, and finally a battle report too!

3D Print Survey Results

The 3D print survey results are in, and honestly a lot of stuff was expected, like most people wanting 28mm models, wanting heroes/infantry kits, and being mostly interested in Grimdark Future and Age of Fantasy.

So let’s get to the interesting bit, and instead show you the top 5 armies that players are interested in:

  • Battle Sisters
  • Robot Legions
  • Battle Brothers
  • Alien Hives
  • Machine Cult

Seeing these results we’ve decided that our first miniatures set is going to be for the Battle Sisters, and once we’re done with that we’ll make another poll.

Whilst these 5 were the most requested armies, there were plenty of other armies that all got a couple of votes each, and we think that there’s definitely some value added to not only release models for the most popular armies, but to also try out cool stuff that players don’t necessarily expect.

If this 3D print project goes well and enough people sign up to Tier 3 on Patreon, then we’re going to try and release two sets of miniatures each month, one set for the most popular armies, and one set for some underserved armies (or something completely different and cool).

So what’s next?

Well, we’ve already started working on the Battle Sisters set, which will hopefully be released at the beginning of March, and then everyone can sign up to get the models.

After that we’re going to be making a new survey for the next month’s models, which will again be release at the beginning of the next month, etc.

One thing that’s worthy of notice, we already have some Battle Brothers miniatures available, and we’re going to be re-working them for out CGTrader page. These minis are going to always remain free, just to give people a taste of the quality we provide, as well giving them an opportunity to do some test prints before delving deeper.

Army Updates

This week we’re releasing a very important update, which entails the splitting of various combined armies into individual armies, as well as some other small patches.

For GF/GFF we’re splitting up the Mercenaries into 3 factions, each with their own army illustration as well as a new background story section.

Then we’re also splitting up the Battle Brothers and Prime Brothers into individual factions in response to more and more Prime Brothers models being released, and if we keep them together the list is going to blow up into something gigantic.

We’re also updating the Prime Brothers with new weapons and upgrades, as the list needed some maintenance to keep it up to standard.

For AoF/AoFS we’re splitting up the Dwarves into 3 factions, each with their own army illustration as well as a new background story section.

Splitting up the armies into individual factions is being done in order to avoid rules bloat, to make armies easier to find in the army folder, and also because it makes them easier to implement in something big that’s coming in the future. ;)

Here the full patch notes:

Grimdark Future

Dwarf Guilds

  • Heroes with Jetpacks now ignore the Slow rule

Havoc Brother Disciples

  • Change Brothers now have AP(1) on their Assault Rifles

Mercenaries

  • Split armies into single factions: Human Inquisition, Elven Jesters, Feudal Guard

Prime Brothers

  • Added new unit: Grave Captain
  • Heroes have more ranged and melee upgrades now
  • Re-worked Auto-Rifles to have 3 attacks
  • Prime Brothers can now swap any Auto-Rifle for a Rifle or Precision Rifle
  • Prime Brothers can take Grenade Launcher Auto-Rifle attachments
  • Raider Squads now come with Heavy Pistols
  • Elimination Squads can now upgrade with Laser Rifles

Age of Fantasy

Dwarves

  • Split armies into single factions: Dwarves, Volcanic Dwarves, Sky-City Dwarves

High Elves

  • Elf Princes can now be upgraded with Wizard(1)

Grimdark-Inquisition

Age of Fantasy: Skirmish – Solo AI Batrep

Finally because this is something we don’t get so often, Sad and Lonely Gamer has posted up another excellent solo AI batrep, this time playing AoF: Skirmish.

The match features a quick and bloody skirmish of Eternal Wardens vs Orcs, make sure to check it out and subscribe to his channel!

That’s it for today, but that’s in no way all we have to offer, and there’s so many new exciting things coming soon that we just can’t wait to share… but we still have to!

Happy Wargaming!

3D Print Survey + Battle Reports

3D Print, Community Survey, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Today we got something really exciting for you regarding 3D print models, as well as a bunch of new battle reports for you to watch.

3D Print Models

During the community survey there were a lot of people asking us if we could provide 3D print models as part of our offering, which had us very surprised, so we went around and asked some 3D model makers for possibilities to collaborate.

Well here we are just a few weeks later, and the fine folks at The Makers Cult have offered to help us out (you might know them from some of the awesome battle brothers miniatures they already made for us).

So now the plan we have is to follow the same development cycle that they have to provide you with awesome minis every month. :D

This is how it will work:

  • Tier 3 patrons receive new 3D print models every month
  • Patreon supporters vote on what models we make next
  • Old models get cycled out and are made available via CGTrader

Right now we’re planning on each month’s release to be either a single cool miniature (like a hero or vehicle), or a kit to put together a squad (with multiple weapons), but as we get more experience we could start experimenting with other stuff.

Take the 3D print survey: https://forms.gle/VsW6sSwPBDbC1NPp7

Tier 3 is just $5 more than Tier 2, however don’t upgrade your pledge just yet, as we’ll only be starting this new cycle once the first batch of models is ready. Once everything is in place we’ll make an announcement, and then you can get your hands on those sweet sweet miniatures.

This is a really exciting opportunity, and we’re looking forward to seeing where we go with this. If the demand is high enough this could be opening the doors towards a ton of new stuff we could be doing, so keep your eyes peeled!

Note that all of the existing Battle Brothers heroes and infantry models we released will remain completely free of charge for everyone.

Battle Reports Galore!

First up we have an awesome new Grimdark Future battle report from Wyloch Plays, with an epic 5500pts clash of Alien Hives vs Wormhole Daemons.

Then we’ve had lots of people ask for more Age of Fantasy battle reports, so here’s an awesome Havoc War Disciples vs Ogres match from Sad and Lonely Gamer.

Finally we have another great solo batrep for Grimdark Future, this time it’s a heated battle of Orc Marauders vs Change Wormhole Daemons.

3D Print Tokens

For all of you 3D print fans we also have a new set of 3D print tokens shared by Grabbit, which should look pretty awesome on the table once you paint them up.

Get them here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4146337

We’d also like to add that if you make any 3D print models for our games feel free to share them with us, and we’ll make sure to highlight them in these news posts.

That’s it for today, please make sure to fill out the survey and we’ll make sure to provide you with the most awesome miniatures we can. :D

Community Survey Results

Community Survey

Hi everyone,

Last week we launched a new community survey and after analyzing the 200+ responses we got we’re finally ready to share the results with you.

This has been our biggest community survey so far, and we’re really excited that so many people took part in it and are helping shape the future of our project, so I’d like to thank everyone for participating! :D

Just like last time there’s some people that used the “other” sections to ask specific questions about the games and the project, however since we don’t collect e-mail addresses we have no way to reply to you.

Please if you have any questions and feedback, go ahead and post them on the forum so that we can give you an official answer: http://onepagerules.proboards.com/

With that out of the way let’s get to the survey results…

Would you be interested in participating or spectating in an OPR game jam?

game jam

Right now 72.1% of players said they’re interested in a game jam, of which 1/3rd are actually interested in participating, which is super awesome.

These results have given us a lot more confidence in pulling this off, and if more people from outside the dedicated OPR community join in we could well have over 100 games submitted to the jam!

We’d like to organize the jam for some time in the spring or summer, but honestly having never hosted one we’d like to take some time to properly figure everything out before jumping into it, so no date has been fixed so far.

Which one of these settings would you be interested in for new full games?

new games

This was an interesting one because we made this list first thinking of what players would like to see, and then sprinkled in a few settings that would be our favorites to work on, hoping players would vote those ones the most. :P

Luckily for us it seems that other players are also excited about the same sort of things we like, and here are some of the top results from the list:

  • Post-Apoc
  • Gritty Fantasy
  • Cyberpunk
  • Space Battles
  • Star Wars

So yeah, you can definitely expect us to be working on these settings in the near future, for all sorts of games. What we’d like to do is create a couple of new game engines, and then see how they fit together with these themes whilst also modifying them for the specific quirks of the setting, but we’ll get into the specific of that another time.

Even thought they didn’t make the top of the list we’re also really considering working on at least one historical game and one small-scale (6mm/15mm) game, because we feel that there’s people out there that would love the style of our games but simply don’t try them because they’re not historical or small-scale games.

There’s also been a lot of people asking for us to make a mecha game, so we’ll definitely think about how we can work that out, or if maybe we can somehow include the mecha rules into a 6mm/15mm sci-fi game.

Would you be interested in printable paper fantasy miniatures?

paper miniatures

Here we got a 58% interested response, which honestly is much higher than we thought it would be, but I guess it goes hand in hand with the DIY nature of our games.

Seeing so many people interested is making us think about a couple of different things we could do in the future, both for OPR as well as for other projects.

For example we could provide a basic set of paper miniatures for all of our future games, especially for settings that don’t have a huge selection of miniatures out there or that not many people already have miniatures for.

It could also be really interesting to start a new project fully dedicated to a game that comes with new paper miniatures and missions on a monthly basis, though that would probably have to be its own separate thing…

Would you be interested in physical miniatures?

physical miniatures

No surprises here, 73.1% of players are interested in physical miniatures, however what is interesting is that in the comments lots of players said that they’d be interested in 3D printable miniatures for higher patreon tiers.

I can’t make any promises, but I’ll be getting in contact with different 3D model makers regarding that to see what’s feasible to make within our budget, so look forward to more news on that.

About the actual physical miniatures, we’ve gotten a few comments from people that are worried about us making games that could only be played with our own miniatures, or that we start yet another competitive wargame that then just dies like many others.

The answer to these concerns is a definitive no and no.

Right now the idea is to make a game that can be played with any miniatures, and we’d be providing our own miniatures for those that want them. So if we fund it on Kickstarter you could imagine that there would be 3 pledge levels: digital rules only, digital rules + physical book, and finally digital rules + physical book + physical miniatures.

Also the game we’re thinking of making would be developed to be played in 3 different modes: as a narrative campaign like rangers of shadow deep, as an open ended campaign like mordheim, or as a single skirmish encounter like GFF or AoFS.

We want to give players something that they can play solo, coop or versus, and that doesn’t rely on continuously pushing you to buy more models. At the end of the day we’re good at making rules, so that’s always going to be our primary focus, and cool models are just a bonus.

Which one of these expansions would you be interested in?

expansions

This was a question related to our currently available games, and it was very interesting to see that 70.3% of players are interested in Narrative Campaigns over anything else.

Since our games are so light on narrative we’re going to have to experiment a little with narrative campaigns, and are currently thinking of doing a first “test” campaign that is released in multiple single-mission episodes.

This way we can collect feedback as the missions come out and improve our format, instead of committing to something that might not work and wasting a lot of effort on it.

Now let me say one thing: I’m not good at writing stories, and I think that’s very evident from the little lore we have in the game. :(

Because of this I’m going to be looking for some writers that can help me out, and soon I’ll be making an announcement for people to recommend writers or apply as writers for our narrative campaigns. So if you know anyone that might be interested or would like to do it yourself, then you’ll be able to apply for the position soon.

Which Grimdark Future armies do you play?

grimdark future

Here we always have the usual suspects at the top, however it’s interesting to see that HDF players have leapt forward a bit whilst Orc Marauders have lagged behind.

Compared to our last community survey it’s cool to see that in general we now have a higher percentage of players that own less popular armies, and we’re hoping to see that trend continue so that maybe one day they can also share some of the spotlight.

Which Age of Fantasy armies do you play?

age of fantasy

For Age of Fantasy once again Dwarves are at the top of the list, and just as with Grimdark Future it seems that Orcs have gone down a bit, thought in general the played armies are still more evenly distributed than in Grimdark Future.

Here again it’s very cool to see that some of the smaller armies are being played more, and even the freshly released armies are getting a solid amount of players. Let’s see what the future brings, as we suspect more fresh fantasy armies to be released this year. ;)

Do you have any suggestions for things we should do with OPR?

Finally there is no graph that I can show for this one, and we got so many different comments that it’s hard to see many trends, but still let me delve into the highlights:

Unclear Information

There are still players that are still unaware that there are full rulebooks and point calculators available, and some that say the website is confusing, which is definitely very alarming for us. We’re going to look into re-structuring our website at some point this year, trying to streamline it further and make things clearer.

Physical Rulebooks

Quite a few players suggested that we start selling physical versions of the books, and wouldn’t you know it, we’re actually working on that already. No official date on when that will happen, but we’re thinking of partnering up with Wargames Vault for the on-demand printing right now.

Digital Tabletop Game

Some players said they would really love a digital tabletop video game for GF/AoF, which seems kind of logical seeing how many people like to play our games using Roll20 and TTS. That being said, whilst we’d love to jump into something like that, making a video game takes a lot of time and money, and we’re not even really sure that it would pay off.

Don’t get me wrong, this is definitely something we’re going to keep in the back of our minds, and if the project grows enough we could definitely do it (maybe use KS as a platform to properly gauge interest), but as of right now it seems impossible.

Of course if you know anyone that could help us work or any studio that might be willing to partner up for such an adventure let us know!

That’s it for today, hope you enjoyed this insight into the results of the community future, and that you’re as excited as we are for what’s coming next in 2020! :D

Happy Wargaming!

Community Survey – January 2020

Community Survey

Hi everyone,

2019 was a year of big changes for OPR, during which we polished our games a lot as well as re-released a lot of old games. We also added a ton of new features that we always thought the project needed, and now we feel pretty stable in our offering.

That being said, we want 2020 to be an even bigger year for OPR!

Since we’re stable and things have calmed down this is the perfect opportunity to start expanding what we provide to our players. This year we want to release new games, as well as delve into unknown territory and try completely new things, so it’s going to be a very interesting journey.

To help us with that, we’re launching a new community survey today: https://forms.gle/WCvXCSbTLMarM1rP8

This community survey is a bit different from the last one, in that we’re asking for a much broader range of opinions on a multitude of topics. Because of this we’ve added an extra blank field to each question so that if you don’t find the option you want in the list, then you can add your own comment.

There are a couple of things we’d like to highlight about the questions:

Question 1 – Game Jam: The plan right now is to do a 48hr game jam that takes place over a weekend, where everyone is given a simple theme to build a one-page game around. We’ll be providing all of the documents and guidelines to make the process as simple and possible, and we’re thinking of using itch.io for the uploads.

Question 2 – New Games: For this question we’d like to know what games you’d actually be interested in playing, which you already have models for or for which you’d buy new models. The list is quite short so feel free to add any additional themes you’re interested in, as we’ve surely missed a ton of popular ones.

Question 3 – Paper Miniatures: Here we’re talking about paper miniatures for a completely new game and/or project, and not for our existing games. Right now we’re not too keen on making miniatures for all of our existing armies (they’re far too many), but please do leave your opinion in the blank space.

Question 4 – Physical Miniatures: We’ve been in contact with an awesome miniatures company that already has a few KS projects under its belt, and we’re looking to see if it would make sense to collaborate on a new project. The main idea would be to create a custom game that comes with a two player set and that can be expanded upon, but that can be fully enjoyed as a stand-alone boxed game. This way people can get awesome miniatures that they can play with forever, instead of having to buy in to yet another model line that they’re afraid might be abandoned one day.

Question 5 – Expansions: Here we’re talking about expansion booklets that are akin to the full rulebooks, so not just a one-page affair (like the skirmish campaign rules). The narrative campaigns would come with their own storyline and multiple scenarios, whilst the other expansions would have special rules, new mission types, random events, etc.

If you have a minute to spare please take the community survey, it really helps a lot: : https://forms.gle/WCvXCSbTLMarM1rP8
