3rd Wave Release Date – 25th of April

Game Update

Hello everyone,

I’m pleased to announce that we have an official release date for the 3rd wave armies and other general updates: Thursday the 25th of April!

This has been a long time coming and we are really excited about what changes the new update will bring, as well as getting all of you army books so that you can play with all of your miniatures new and old.

Anyway that’s it for now, no reason to keep you any longer, enjoy the rest of your weekend and I’ll be talking to you again soon.

Happy Wargaming!

Getting closer…

Game Update

Hello everyone,

We’re taking a short break from sharing battle reports in order to bring you some good news when it comes to the release of the 3rd wave armies and other things. After a lot of hard work we are finally getting closer to the release of the next big update, and things are pretty exciting behind the scenes.

3rd Wave Armies

The biggest and most important thing to know is that we have finally completed work on the 12 new armies that are going to be released, and unless we discover any major flaws in them they are pretty much locked down.

Those that have backed us on Patreon are already able to playtest the armies and provide us with feedback, and hopefully these armies will come out to the whole community soon for everyone to enjoy.

Working on the 3rd wave has also brought us to realize that there were a lot of little changes we wanted to make to the core engine, which brings us to the next point…

Core Engine Changes

So since the 3rd wave armies are ready, why haven’t we released them yet? What the hell are we waiting for?! Is this madness!?!

Well… no.

Like we mentioned before we are making a lot of small changes to the core engine because we realized that some special rules were not as fun as we wanted them to be, and whilst working on those we realized that there were some special rules that were priced incorrectly.

But then whilst working on those we also realized that the base cost of certain quality values was priced incorrectly too, so in order to make things right we are going to have to go back and re-work a couple of units from almost every army.

Whilst this won’t be delaying the release by a lot, it will still have an impact. Also a fair warning: a lot of the high quality / high defense values are about to get a lot more expensive, so expect to re-work your Battle Brother army lists soon…

Cover Art

Thanks to the help of our community we were finally able to find an artist that was able to satisfy our needs, and since he came highly recommended we are sure that a couple of you will recognize his work and be very happy.

In any case, we don’t want to say too much now, but we are well underway in the creation of the cover art for the 2 main games, and right now we are about halfway through, which is really really awesome.

As things move along we will probably make some more posts about it, but I think that we will most likely be releasing the new cover art as part of the 3rd wave update.

Fingers crossed…

Layout Changes

To be honest the layout changes are a mixed bag.

For the full rulebook we have been working on layout changes that should make things look a lot better, and we are also trying to get some more illustrations to be added to it in order to spice things up (because in our minds more pictures = better).

For the army books however things are kinda stalled and we won’t be releasing the new layout with the 3rd wave armies. This is mainly because we haven’t found a good balance between making things more visually pleasing and maintaining a compact look, but we will keep testing things until we find something that works.

And that’s it for now…

We’ll probably be making a couple more battle report updates in the future so that you can check out how other people play our games, and as soon as we have more news on the 3rd wave release they will be shared here.

Happy Wargaming!

Still alive and kicking!

Game Update

Hello everyone,

It’s been a long time since we last posted something, and after getting a couple of messages from concerned fans we thought it would be good to say a few words to keep you all up to date.

We were waiting for some eventful news before making a new update, but unfortunately things have not been panning out the way we wanted them to, so there is nothing tangible that we can share with you today.

Instead let us fill you in on what has been going on behind the scenes.

Cover Art

The major thing we have been trying to get done over the past few months is to work on official cover art for our rulebooks. What we would like to do is to replace the current bland rulebook covers which just show the logo of the games with awesome full color battle scenes that evoke the drama and epicness of battle.

To do this we have been getting in contact with a couple of artists who would be able to do digital illustrations for us, but so far we haven’t been able to find the right fit yet. We don’t want to go into much detail, but in any case if you know of any digital illustrators that could help us make something truly awesome for our games, please let us know!

Layout Changes

With the addition of cover art we have also been thinking about re-vamping the layouts for the rulebooks as well as the army lists. This has been hard because we are trying to find a balance between something that looks good and also can stick with our beloved one-page format.

At this point we still haven’t been able to hit quite the right spot, and since changing the layout would mean re-working pretty much all of our material we don’t want to go ahead with something that we are not fully satisfied with. Anyway we’ll probably be sharing some test layouts with our Patreon supporters soon to get some feedback, so if you are part of the Patreon you can look forward to that soon.

Third Wave Armies

Otherwise we are still working on the third wave armies, but the work on those has been a bit slow because we were hoping to have the new layout ready and start working on those with it already.

Seeing how it’s taking longer than expected we will just keep making those armies with the current layout so that you can get your hands on them as soon as possible. If you are a Patreon supporter you can look forward for a preview of those soon.

And that’s it for today…

Tt really sucks that we can’t bring you anything new today but we hope that at least this update gives you an insight into what is going on with OPR and makes you understand that the project is far from being dead. :)

Cheers,

Gaetano

2nd Wave Armies & Happy Holidays

Age of Fantasy, Firefight, Game Update, Grimdark Future, Skirmish

Hi everyone,

First off I would like to apologize for taking so long to get this update out, but with the holiday season here it’s been difficult to find enough time to work on this project. In any case I said that I was going to get you all the 2nd wave armies by Christmas, so here’s the good news… all of the 2nd wave armies are available right now!

In addition to having updated all of the games with the 2nd wave armies, I have also updated a bunch of other files in order to improve the game. None of this would have been able without the help of our generous community, so thank you all for providing your feedback and contributing with new ideas for the project!

Here are the most important changes:

  • Clarified that the range for blocking spells is 12″ in the beginner’s guides
  • Fixed the Fearless special rule in AoFS and GFF to work as intended
  • Clarified how units with Tough handle wounds in AoFS and GFF
  • Orc Mechanics now have the option to upgrade with the Good Shot rule
  • Fixed HDF Infantrymen squad size and cost in GFF
  • Fixed Ratmen Night Scouts squad size and cost in AoF & AoFS

There are a couple of other things that we would like to fix in the near future and other suggestions by the community that we would like to explore, however those will probably only be worked on and released together with the 3rd wave of armies.

Anyway I don’t want to keep you much longer since it’s the holiday season and I’m sure you want to spend time with your friends and families, so happy holidays everyone!

Cheers,

Gaetano

2nd Edition is here!

Age of Fantasy, Firefight, Game Update, Grimdark Future, Skirmish

Hello everyone,

It is with great plasure that today we can finally announce the release of 2nd edition!

Today we have updated the rulebooks and army books to the newest edition, as well as made some additions to the patreon in order to accomodate the new changes. We have been working on this update for what seems like an eternity, so we hope that you like everything that’s new and what’s coming in the future.

Now then, let me give you a small tour of what has changed!

Basic Rulebooks & Full Rulebooks

Since the beginning of the project one of the most consistent pieces of feedback we get is that people love to use our games to introduce new players to the world of wargaming, so we decided to try and give those players a little help in starting out.

In addition to the good old single-page rules that we all know and love (now re-named “core rules”) we also made a Basic Rulebook available that is specifically aimed at new players.

This rulebook is about 10 pages long and explains the rules in much greater detail, including a lot of diagrams and examples to illustrate how the game works. It also covers some of the most basic wargaming concepts such as how to move models properly, how dice modifiers work, etc.

For patreon supporters at Tier 2 or higher we have also introduced a Full Rulebook that is aimed at more experienced players. This rulebook contains ton of additional rules for extra missions, battlefield conditions, special terrain and objectives, random events, solid buildings, multi-player games and how to play apocalyptic games.

Core Rules

The Core Rules are the main rules used to play our games, which everyone should be pretty familiar with. With the release of 2nd edition we have made a couple of important changes in order to simplify the game and unify the systems in order to make it easier to switch between Grimdark Future and Age of Fantasy.

Whilst there are a ton of small changes that were made, the biggest change that players will notice is how defense values work. It was very painful to see how one of the most core mechanics of the game caused so much confusion to so many players, and so we decided to just go ahead and re-work defense in order to simplify it for everyone.

Now instead of the attacker rolling against the unit’s defense value to wound it, it’s the defender that rolls their own defense value to block the hit. Each failed block is a wound.

This small change has a huge impact on the simplicity of how the game is played, because now there are no situations where one has to roll 6+/4+ in order to cause a wound, but instead you always roll a straight value from 2+ to 6+. In order to make sure that units with high defense (the old defense 7+ to 10+ units) are still hard to kill, we have given them a much higher Tough(X) value in order to compensate.

Outside of this we made a lot of smaller changes:

  • A roll of 6 is always a success and a roll of 1 is always a fail.
  • The basic recommended game size is now 750pts.
  • There are no more unit type restrictions in the game.
  • When shooting models with different weapons can shoot at different targets.
  • Poison now deals extra hits on rolls of 6 instead of being a defense modifier.
  • Flyers are now called Aircraft in the special rules
  • Ambush doesn’t cause units to scatter anymore
  • Fear is now a penalty on a per-model basis instead of a per-unit basis
  • Fearless now allows units to stop being pinned on a roll of 4+
  • There is a new rule called Mend which allows you to heal friendly units on a 4+
  • Psychic’s now roll D6+X in order to determine casting results
  • Dispelling now has a 12″ range instead of 18″, and there is no limit to dispels

Army Releases

Because of all the changes in the core rules we had to go back and re-work all of the armies in the game almost from the ground up. Almost all units and weapons had to be re-worked and re-balanced, as well as having to change the cost of everything in the game because we are using a new point calculation system.

In order to get the games out to you ASAP we decided to split the army releases into 3 waves, so we are going to be releasing more armies in the coming weeks/months until all of the existing armies have been released (as well as a few new ones).

The 1st wave of armies has already been released, so make sure to check the army section for each game to see what is coming in the 2nd and in the 3rd wave.

Point Calculation System

For those that are interested in creating their own units and armies, or even modify the existing ones, we have made the Point Calculation System available to patreon backers at Tier 3 or higher.

The Point Calculation System contains all of the maths required in order to create units and weapons, as well as a lot of helpful tips & tricks in order to create balanced units that fit within the existing ones.

The Future

So what’s next?

Right now we are focusing on the release of the 2nd and 3rd wave of armies, and then we will have to see what the future brings. We are thinking of ways to give you even more content on a regular basis, but we really want to make sure everyone can use their miniatures to play first.

For those of you with access to the secret forum, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information soon…

Final Thoughts

Enough talking for now, just go ahead and check out the games, dust off your minis and get back into the action! We really hope you enjoy the new edition. :)

Happy wargaming,

Gaetano

2nd Edition Army Release Survey

Game Update

Hello everyone,

It’s been a while since we made an update for those that aren’t Patreon backers, but we’ve been waiting to have a substantial part of the games done before saying anything.

Updates Updates Updates

The last update was around 4 months ago and the project has moved forward by a ton, so here is what’s new for those that have been out of the loop:

  • The core rules are done, so the game is fully playable now
  • The beginner’s guide is almost done, we just need to add some diagrams to it
  • The full rulebook is almost done, just needs some diagrams as well
  • The point calculation system is done, so now people can make their own armies
  • The first 14 army books are done, so people can play the games already

Final Release

So what’s missing before we can finally release the games?

Well, right now we are working on finalizing the Grimdark Future: Firefight rules, as well as the Age of Fantasy: Skirmish rules. Once those are done and we have the diagrams for our rulebooks done, then we are going to release the games. :)

2nd Edition Army Release Survey

As part of the initial 2nd edition launch we are going to include these armies:

  • Grimdark Future: Battle Brothers + Detachments, Alien Hives, Human Defense Force, Orc Marauders, TAO Coalition
  • Age of Fantasy: Humans, Chivalrous Kingdoms, Dwarves, Orcs, Goblins, Undead (Vampiric + Mummified)

After that we are going to release the remaining armies in batches, and to know which armies we should release first we want your help. Please answer the questions in the survey below so that we know which armies to prioritize:

That’s it for now, we’ll get back to you with a new update soon!

Keeping you in the loop

Game Update

Hello people,

It’s been a while since we posted an update on the website, so I thought that it’s about time to keep you up to date with what has been going on.

Since everything we are working on is only available to Tier 2 Patreon backers I am going to give you an overview of the current state of 2nd edition, with just enough detail so that you know what to expect.

Core Rules

The core rules of the game are pretty much finalized, with just some tweaks being done to a couple of the special rules. 2nd edition brings much needed changes to make the game simpler and tackle some of the major issues that players have been facing when starting out with our games, so we’re excited to see everything come together.

Beginner’s Guide

In addition to the core rules we are going to make a beginner’s guide available to make it even easier for people to get into the game. This is a 10 page booklet that explains all of the rules of the game as well as other wargaming concepts using a lot of diagrams and examples, which should answer a lot of common questions.

Full Rulebook

On top of that we are working on the creation of a full rulebook which is composed of the beginner’s guide plus a lot of advanced rules to spice up the game. Right now we are in the final stages of making the rulebook and if everything goes right it will be one of the coolest things we ever produced.

Point Calculation System

We have created the point calculation system for those that are into tweaking their games and designing their new armies. With this booklet you are going to have access to the official point cost system that we use to create all of our armies. Whilst the majority of it is done, it is going to be expanded upon as we complete the army books.

Army Books

Because of the process that we used for developing 2nd edition the army books are the last thing that we have started working on. Currently we are planning on releasing 2nd edition with 4-6 of the most popular armies, and then add the rest over time. We are also playing around with the layout of the army books, so they might end up looking a lot different from what we have right now.

Final Thoughts

As you can see a ton of work has been going into 2nd edition, and there are some other things we have been brewing that we didn’t even mention here, so the future is full of surprises for OPR.

We hope that this update gave you a better idea of how things are moving forward, and we will give you a release date for 2nd edition once we know that it’s finally ready.

Happy Wargaming!

Gaetano

Prime Brothers Update!

Firefight, Game Update, Grimdark Future

Hey everyone,

Today we’re updating the Battle Brothers Detachments for Grimdark Future with some additional units and revisions to the Prime Brothers. Here is what has changed:

  • Added 1 new hero: Prime Psychic
  • Added 2 new infantry units: Prime Raiders and Aggro Brothers
  • Added 2 new vehicles: Prime Walker and Anti-Grav Tank
  • Added more weapon options for the Blaster Brothers and the Jetpack Brothers

With these additions you are now able to have a much more complete Prime Brothers army that can take out the enemy with formidable efficiency. I’m looking forward to seeing more people play this army over time as the Prime Brothers are extremely powerful but also cost a lot of points, so you have to be very tactical with them.

You can get the updates for each game here:

Happy Wargaming,

Gaetano
