Point Calculators + AI Rules Updates

AI Rules, Game Update, Point Calculator

Hi everyone,

Today we’re really happy to announce that we’ve updated our Point Calculators with lots of cool new stuff, plus we’re bringing you one of the many upcoming re-workings of game rules with an update to the Solo AI Rules.

Point Calculators Update

For those of you that are unfamiliar with them, the Point Calculators are booklets with all of the rules and systems we use to create all units in the game, which are available via our Patreon page.

Until now the Point Calculators were pretty cool already, but they felt a little incomplete, especially after the big army updates we did a couple of months ago. So in order to provide our players with the best content we can, we’ve decided to go back and re-work the Point Calculators to bring them to a new glory.

The new versions of the Point Calculators were upgraded with a new layout to make everything clearer to read, as well as having all sections revised to make sure they’re as easy to understand as possible.

On top of that we’ve now added a couple of cool new features:

  • Army Checklist – There’s now a handy checklist in the army creation guidelines that helps you make sure your custom created armies have everything they need to be balanced with all of the official armies in the game.
  • Spell List Creation – We’ve added a new section on how to create your own spell lists and make sure that they’re balanced like the ones from the official armies, as well as the full roster of 35+ spell types that are available in the game.
  • Converting Armies to Firefight/Skirmish – Finally by popular demand there’s also a new section dedicated to how you can convert your custom armies for skirmish games, making sure that you have all the tools you need to play at any game size.

If you’ve always wanted to create your own armies this is the ultimate tool you need in your arsenal, and if you’ve already got the Point Calculator before, then this new version is definitely worth checking out, as it’s the most complete version yet.

Solo AI Rules Update

Lately we’ve been working hard at updating a lot of the existing rules, which we’ll be releasing over the next couple of weeks, among other cool new stuff. ;)

Today we’re starting with the Solo AI Rules, which definitely needed an overhaul in terms of how they were written, as well as some other details here and there. We hope that these new versions make it even easier for you to play games against the AI, and if you have any feedback on how we can improve them further please let us know!

Here the full changelog:

  • Overall re-wrote many sections to make them clearer
  • Hybrid units that are moving toward objectives and have no valid targets will now take rush actions instead of advance actions
  • Clarified how to identify enemies that are in the way, and that the AI will consider targets in proximity as valid even if not technically in the way
  • Re-wrote the controlling objectives rules to clarify that non-seized objectives with more friendly non-pinned units than enemies within 3″ already count as controlled
  • Clarified that the advancing rules apply to shooting and hybrid units only
  • AI units with Deadly will now target single-model units first, prioritizing those with the lowest remaining wounds
  • AI units with Indirect now always use Hold actions if they are in range of enemies
  • Firefight/Skirmish: When setting up objectives the table area is now split into 4 instead of 6, and when deploying units and activating them the table are is now split into 2 instead of 3

Open Call for Writers

Finally just a small update regarding the open call for writers!

We’ve received over 40 submissions, which is way more than we could’ve ever hoped for, and we’re really thankful for everyone that participated.

Since there were so many submissions we weren’t able to read them all yet, but we’re going to get back to the writers as soon as we have decided who we’d like to move forward with for our content.

Honestly it’s really hard to let people down, and it’s so cool that we’ve got so many submissions that we’re thinking about how we could maybe get everyone together to make something cool, a sort of community campaign or something.

Anyway, nothing sure yet, but thanks again for all the submissions. :D

That’s it for today, next week we’ve hopefully got some even more exciting things for you, but honestly… there’s going to be lots of cool new stuff for a while now!

Happy Wargaming!

New Point Calculator & Quickplay Armies

Age of Fantasy, Point Calculator, Quickplay Armies

Hello everyone,

Today we got two interesting topics for you: the new version of the Point Calculator and a new set of Quickplay Armies.

Something that became clear with the recent community survey is that many players suggest we create stuff that we have actually created already, simply because they’re unaware that these things exist.

The two biggest things that people requested are advanced rules for the games, as well as a way to calculate points for their own armies… which are things that are already available.

For advanced rules we already made a post giving more details on the Full Rulebooks, which you can find here: https://onepagerules.com/2019/06/27/full-rulebooks-more/

For the point calculator we’re going to use this news post to give you an idea of what we have and how to get it, so brace yourself!

New Point Calculator

So, what is the Point Calculator?

The Point Calculator is the system that we use to figure out the point costs for all units and weapons in the game and serves as the corner stone for our game engine.

The new version brings important changes to the Point Calculator by clarifying a lot of outstanding questions, re-writing a lot of serctions to be clearer and by adding new illustrations and background textures to the book.

With the Point Calculator you can create units from scratch, defining all of their traits like Quality, Defense and Special Rules. The book also comes with an exhaustive list of all Army Special Rules so that you can create virtually any type of unit you could ever dream of.

After having created your unit you can then equip it with custom weapons, which can be created just the way you like, modifying Range, Attacks, AP and Special Rules. This is a truly powerful tool as it allows you to go into as much or as little detail as you want, so you can mess around and forge insane weapons of war.

Finally the Point Calculator also comes with an extensive Designer’s Guidelines section, which explains the logic behind the creation of our Armies, Units and Weapons, so that you can create custom assets that fit in with the official armies we provide.

We’ve also included a large list of common weapons for you to use, as well as detailed explanations on how you can create units that work well by simply looking at your models and giving them the right stats.

Truly the Point Calculator is the best thing to have if you ever wanted to take our games to another level, or even use our base engine to create custom games of your own.

If you would like to access the Point Calculator check out our Patreon page and support us at Tier 3 or higher. Enjoy! :)

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

Two ancient forces have been fighting for the souls of the fallen for centuries and finally meet to settle matters once and for all. This set of Quickplay Armies is very interesting because it features two armies that both have specific strengths and weaknesses against each other, so clashes are extremely deadly.

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Eternal Wardens vs Ghostly Undead

Eternal Wardens

  • 1x Arcane Lord w/ Great Gryph
  • 1x Enchanter Knight
  • 3x Sequitur Squad
  • 3x Evocation Squad
  • 3x Castigation Squad
  • 1x Ballista

Ghostly Undead

  • 1x Ghost Knight w/ Ghost Ram
  • 1x Ghost Knight w/ Cursed Lantern
  • 1x Ghost Executioner
  • 1x Ghost Jailor
  • 20x Ghost Horde w/ Command Group
  • 5x Glaive Stalkers w/ Command Group
  • 4x Ghost Reapers w/ 1x Death Bell

The Eternal Wardens in this set focus on a small but elite force of determined ghost hunters, which are few in numbers but extremely durable. Most units in the army have the Wizard rule, which allows them to cast powerful protection spells as well as take ghosts down easily by ignoring the Ethereal rule. These line troops are then supported by deadly marksmen and powerful artillery with the Ballista, which you should use to cover their advance and protect objectives.

The Ghostly Undead on the other hand focus a large horde of weak but relentless troops supported by on powerful heroes that excel at killing wardens. The Ghost Knight can give the Ghost Horde AP(1) with its Cursed Lantern, whilst the Ghost Jailor can ignore the enemy’s high defense with its Capture Soul ability. If you want to be more blunt the Ghost Executioner can easily chop heads with its Rending axe or else charge in with Ghost Reapers that multiply their attacks with Sweeping Strikes. There’s something for everyone…

Hope that you like them, if you have any suggestions please let us know. :)

Happy Wargaming!
