New 2024-2025 Tournament Season Packs

February 19, 2025

Hello everyone!

The OPR Rangers Guide includes advice for how to run a variety of different Community Events for your local OPR Community. However running a tournament is a bit more complicated than your average event, with a lot of things to consider that need to be planned and made available to your players well in advance. To help with that, we've put together an all new Tournament Pack for the 2024-2025 Season for each of our games. These guides help with everything from scoring to matchmaking and even include a set of tournament missions to add more variety to your events.

Players have been asking us for dedicated tournament packs for a long time, so we're happy to finally release these. Note that this does not change our approach to OPR, and our mission is still to create accessible wargames that are simple to learn and fast to play, and we're not going to compromise that for tournament play. Instead, this is our way to provide some extra support to those that are already interested in tournaments, and that are happy to play competitively with OPR's simple language rules, even if it makes the game not always super precise for tournament play.

So, what's in a tournament pack?

The tournament packs provide a more thorough explanation of how to run tournaments, different tournament types, conduct guidelines, how to participate, and more. On top of that, the tournament packs recommend some optional seasonal rules from the Advanced Rulebooks, and also come with 4 special tournament scenarios for the season. If you're already familiar with the current tournament guides, a lot of stuff will be similar, and an easy transition.

What are tournament seasons, and why do they matter?

A tournament season lasts from September of one year to August of the next year, so the current season started in September 2024, and ends in August 2025. Then a new season begins in September 2025 that lasts until August 2026, and so on. Tournament seasons are an opportunity for us to provide you with new seasonal scenarios, as well as new recommendations for advanced rules to try out. These things are completely optional, but can be a fun addition to your tournaments. We think it could also be cool to provide you with some physical seasonal medals, but that's something we're still working out, and might not happen this season.

Why have both the tournament pack and the tournament guide?

Because we've promised not to update our rulebooks for 12 months, and the new update only comes in September 2025, we're not going to remove the current tournament guides until then, so you can use both (the tournament guide has a few small differences, and is missing the seasonal content). Once we get to September, we'll be updating our rulebooks with the new tournament pack, but without the seasonal content, so that the book doesn't get outdated. Instead, the seasonal content will be available for free on our website, as always.

This is the first time we try something like this, so please bear with us as we keep updating the format and adapting it to player needs in the future. We hope you enjoy these packs, and wish you a happy tournament season!

Where can you get the new Tournament Season Packs?

You can find each of the tournament packs on the game pages for Grimdark Future, Grimdark Future: Firefight, Age of Fantasy, Age of Fantasy: Skirmish, and Age of Fantasy: Regiments. Just scroll down to the resources area where you can download them for free.

Happy Wargaming!
