GFF: Gang Wars is coming!
It seems that not a month goes by without us revealing some cool new thing, so here we go again with a brand new expansions for Grimdark Future: Firefight with Gang Wars!
So, what exactly is Gang Wars?
Gang Wars is an expansion for GFF that provides additional rules for violent gang combat in the streets of the dangerous and futuristic Hive City.
The rules are designed to be used both for one-off matches as well as for linked campaigns, and they can be played with any armies, although we recommend using Gangs of Hive City.
This is a standalone expansion, so you just need the free core rules and army lists that are available on the website, however you can also use the extra rules from the Full Rulebook to further expand your games.
The expansion’s campaign rules are based off the core campaign rules, however they come with a ton of extra content that add new layers to your GFF campaign experience.
In linked campaigns gangs will fight over city blocks and special locations, with an expanded roster of new skills and equipment, as well as a lot of other surprises. If you just want to play one-off games don’t worry though, most of the stuff can be used for single matches as well, such as 12 brand new missions and urban terrain rules.
Right now all of the following content is being added to the game, however there are even more systems that we’re playing around with, so you might get even more stuff in the end!
New Skill Traits
Hive City Armory
Territory Control Rules
Gang Turf Exploration
12 New Missions
Urban Terrain Rules
City Fighting Rules
Critical Hits Rules
36 New Random Events
Gang Wars is currently in early access on Patreon, with new content being added every week, and we’re hoping to have the first completed draft by the end of the month.
If everything goes well, then we’ll keep the game for a little while longer in early access, after which it will be removed and be available for sale in our WargameVault store.
This has been a blast to design, and we can’t wait to see people’s reactions once it’s out!
Today we’ve got just a quick update, with the OPR Game Jam coming in 2 weeks, a new chapter for Jakob’s Path, as well as Release Previews for everything you’re going to get in November, plus new Battle Reports of course!
Let’s get to it!
OPR Game Jam #2 – November 13th
First up, we’re very happy to announce that the 2nd OPR Game Jam is going to happen on the 13th of November!
What is the OPR Game Jam?
This is a 48hr game making marathon, focused on creating one-page miniatures games based on a common team. Anyone can participate, and you can make games solo or with a team, and we’ll have a dedicated Discord channel so that creators can chat together.
At the end of the 48hrs the games everyone gets to vote on what games they enjoyed the most, and then we will highlight a couple of our favourites on the OPR website. There is no winner or prize, it’s all just for fun!
Jakob’s Path is a narrative campaign for Grimdark Future, which is being released in 5 chapters. Each chapter continues the story and features 2 new missions for you to play.
Whilst the campaign was written with Battle Brothers vs Orc Marauders in mind, it can be played with any other factions and whatever models you have available.
Chapter 4 – A bit shaken but still hopeful after the loss of many men, the Battle Brothers push on following the tracker’s signal. Little did they know that that simple signal was going to lead to a clash for the ages…
October seems to have flown by so quickly, and now we’re already revealing what’s coming up in November, and boy oh boy is it going to be a great month! :D
Here’s everything that’s coming at you:
Alien Hives – Winged Prime Warrior
Alien Hives – Prime Warrior w/ Sword & Whip
Alien Hives – Ravenous Beasts
Alien Hives – Carnivo-Rex
Mummified Undead – Mummy Priest
Mummified Undead – Mummy King on Skeletal Steed
Mummified Undead – Skeleton Archers
Mummified Undead – Giant Statue
On top of that we’re also going to be releasing a huge welcome pack with 15+ models, as well as continuing all of our other usual releases with 2D minis, arena warbands, jakob’s path, and more stuff to be reveales!
Here some early previews of the Skeleton Archers:
Game Related Updates
These past few weeks have been kind of crazy as we’ve had to deal with a lot of background stuff, but fret not, we’ve also been scribbling down lots of game related updates that we’re going to implement!
The Custodian Brothers are going to get an update that adds a lot of missing units, and we’re also going to be updating the Halflings adding more stuff to them as well. Then we’re also going to be heavily re-working the Gangs of Hive City list in preparation for… something cool. ;)
For the other games, we’re currently working on a large FTL update that’s going to fix some of the balancing issues we’ve found through more playtesting, and for the Arena Games we’re halfway through development of a custom warband creator so that you can use any models you have for them!
Starting off with a bang, we’ve got a 3750pts solo match of Orc Marauders vs Plague Brothers by Sad and Lonely Gamer, which features two absolutely massive armies.
Then we’ve got a new batrep by Battle Knights, featuring 1000pts of Halflings vs Humans, in which two badass Cockatrices go berserk!
Finally Stonehorse Gaming has published another AoF: Regiments tactics video, this time discussing the deployment phase and various strategies for how to best deploy your army.
That’s it for today, hope you enjoyed this quick update, and we’re looking forward to the Game Jam in November to see all of your crazy and awesome game ideas!
Today we’ve got 2 New Armies, Painting Contest results, a bigger Store Discount, lots of Paper Miniatures, as well as great news for Arena Season 2 and a new Battle Report.
Let’s get to it!
As announced last week, we’ve got 2 new extremely powerful armies coming at you, the Giant Tribes and Custodian Brothers!
The Giant Tribes are a new army for Age of Fantasy which is made up purely of giant models, with tons of different varieties for you to try out. This is a totally unique army for Age of Fantasy, as you can now field an entire army made up of just 1-2 models, or ally massive giants with your existing army.
The Custodian Brothers used to be part of the Battle Brother Detachments, but we’ve decided to split them off and give them the makeover that they deserve! The new Custodian Brothers are much more durable and dish out a lot more attacks, making for a tiny army of extremely powerful units.
Check out the army folders in the respective game pages to download them!
Painting Contest Results
This month we ran the very first Painting Contest, and now the results are in!
The winner is:
Congratulations to Sebastian, who has won one free month at Tier 3 on Patreon!
Barry makes really cool comics set in the world of Phineus, and if you support him on Patreon you not only get early access to his upcoming comics, but also to bonus comics that are not available on the main site for free!
Things keep moving fast at OPR, and today we’ve got a super-packed update for you, with tons of new releases, as well as a bunch of different videos for you to watch.
Let’s get to it!
Community Wiki Update
Before we begin, we wanted to highlight that over the past weeks the community wiki has been getting a ton of updates, and we now have 100+ pages full of content already!
There is something for everyone in the wiki, with dedicated game pages which give you an overview of all games and lore, as well as individual faction pages for Grimdark, Fantasy and Warfleets: FTL with more details.
For those of you that are interested in strategic tips, we have tactics pages for both Grimdark and Fantasy factions, as well as pre-made quickplay army lists for Grimdark and Fantasy, which cover most recently released box sets.
But what is probably the highlight of the wiki is that we now have dedicated miniatures pages where you can see exactly what models you can use for which units for both Grimdark and Fantasy. No more needing to guess what all those crazy alien hives units are!
The wiki is an amazing resource, and we’re really happy to see it grow, but it is by no means complete. If you’d like to contribute make sure to join our Discord server where we have dedicated wiki discussions: https://discord.gg/djBydgk
Ever since we started providing 3D miniatures, people have been asking us if it would be possible to get them printed for them since they don’t have a 3D printer. For the longest time we’ve been trying to find a good print-on-demand solution that isn’t prohibitively expensive, and it seems that we might have just solved the issue!
We have found a US-based supplier that is able to provide print-on-demand miniatures at a reasonable price, and now we would like to give them a shot to see if this is something that can become a “feature” we provide.
In order to make sure that this is something that is viable for the future, we would like to do a test run first, and so are now looking for volunteers that are interested in our previously released Battle Sisters models.
All questions regarding pricing, shipping, etc. will be answered via e-mail
This is a US-based supplier, so you can expect shipping outside of the US to be pricey
You don’t have to buy the full army bundle, but can choose just to print individual units
Right now you can only get the Battle Sisters models printed
We want to make this very clear, this is a partnership between us and the supplier to provide an easy and reliable way for you to find a print-on-demand service. The supplier is NOT selling you our models, but they are only providing the service of printing them for you. This means that you need to buy the files from us first and then give them to the supplier in order for them to print them. This also means that we have no control over how the supplier handles their part of the business, and all of your questions ultimately have to be answered by them.
Due to the nature of the testing we expect this whole process to take at least a couple of weeks, and if everything goes well, then you can expect to get all of our models 3D printed through them in the future. :D
October Release Overview
Here we are in October, and once again we have a TON of content for you on Patreon!
This month we’re continuing with our Alien Hives and Mummified Undead releases, and we’ve also got a new Marauders Fleet for you as well. On top of that there’s some new games and expansions coming, as well as a bunch of other stuff.
This week we’re super excited to release 2 more brand new games, and we have a couple announcements like our October painting competition, 3D models with pre-supports, an FTL fleet builder, and more.
Let’s get to it!
Arena Games – Season 1 Released
Seems like this month we can’t go a week without having some new game announcements, and today we’ve finally released Season 1 of our arena games to the public!
GF: Arena & AoF: Arena are hex-based arena games that play lightning fast and are centered around warband customization to find the best and craziest combos.
When preparing your warband for battle you’ll have the option between picking different combinations of models, as well as equipping them with upgrades from a selection of faction-specific and common cards.
During the game each player will also have a tactics board which provides models with additional special actions, reactions and objectives that they can use to gain an advantage. These tactics boards are also customizable, with players being able to mix-and-match from a selection of faction-specific and common abilities.
Season 1 features the Battle Brothers, Orc Marauders and Alien Hives for GF, whilst for AoF it features the Humans, Vampiric Undead and the Mummified Undead. On top of that you’ll also get common upgrades and tactics boards, model stat cards, hex-arena boards, play tokens, and everything you need to get going.
The game comes with a one-page version of the rules, as well as an extended rulebook that explains everything in detail with lots of really helpful diagrams and examples.
Season 1 is available for free on our website, but only comes with basic black & white components, and no miniatures. If you want the full color version with all miniatures, then you can find them on WargameVault.
Season 2 is going to be released on Patreon this month, and we’re going to be adding new warbands every month unit there are 3 new warbands for each game. The season will also feature new hex-boards, common assets, etc.
We are planning to release Season 2 to the public at the beginning of next year, and after that a new season will be released every 6 months.
These are some of the most fun games we’ve made, with the high level of customization and quick gameplay making for a very addictive loop. We can’t wait to see more people play them and share their own crazy combos!
PRIZE: The community will vote for the best looking submission, and the winner will get one FREE month on Patreon at Tier 3 (handled via refund).
NOTE: The miniatures should be painted by you, no commissions allowed. By entering the contest you give OPR permission to share the submitted pictures on our social media platforms.
Note: Since this is the first time we’re running something like this it might get a bit weird and we might have to adjust things in the future, but overall it should be fun!
Pre-Supports for 3D Models
In our continuous effort to provide you with more value every month, we’re happy to announce that from October on all of our 3D models will be pre-supported.
We know it sucks that we didn’t have pre-supported models for September, and we’re looking into ways to solve that from a logistical perspective, so that supporters can have both of our new armies fully pre-supported.
Right now we honestly don’t have enough sales from our old Sisters and Dwarf models to justify the cost of having them pre-supported, however if we see that demand goes up to the point where it’s financially viable, then we will definitely do it. :)
Battle Sisters Army Released
Over the past 6 months we’ve released a full Battle Sisters Army in collaboration with Garin from The Makers Cult, which came out looking pretty damn awesome.
We’ve had single units available for sale until now, but with lots of demand for the full army being available, we are more than happy to release the full army as a bundle.
The complete Battle Sisters Army is now available for sale as a bundle with a hefty 20% discount, and if you’re also a patron at Tier 3, then you will get an additional 20% discount on top!
Warfleets: FTL was only released last week, but we already got some great new for you. Schnickers from our Discord/Forum put together a neat fleet builder, which allows you to quickly and easily put together your force.
All of the common assets as well as the faction specific assets are included, with unit stats using easy to read symbols to know what is what, and it even comes with a printing feature. Truly great work!
Today we’ve got a truly gargantuan update for you, with a new game, writing jam results, october previews, game updates, and much more.
Let’s get to it!
The wait is finally over everyone, Warfleets: FTL is now available to the public!
When I was first approached by Austin Peasley back in 2014 about the making of a spaceship battles game, I could’ve never imagined that we’d be here 6 years later releasing a full spaceship game of our own.
The journey has been long, with many iterations of the game, and even some moments of true despair, but we’re really happy that this game is now available for download, and can’t wait to see player’s reactions to it!
For those of you that are hearing about Warfleets: FTL for the first time, this is our take on a fast and furious spaceship battles game, which offers tons of fleet customization and exciting space battles.
Players take on the roles of commanders of a fully personalized fleet, which is made up of ships, heroes and upgrades from a common set of assets, as well as special assets from one of 6 interstellar factions.
Each faction comes with its own selection of ships, heroes and upgrades, and there is also a wide selection of legendary fleets, giving players the chance to step into the shoes of legendary FTL admirals.
As always, the core rules and faction book are completely free, and they offer countless hours of explosive spaceship battles… but what if you want more?
If you support us on Patreon, you can get access to the Full Rulebook, which adds a ton of advanced rules that allow you to further customize your games, with extra missions, deployment styles, events, and much more.
The Full Rulebook also has rules that allow you to re-use widgets from other games, such as blast markers, order dice, ordnance tokens, command dials, and many more.
Here a full breakdown of what you get in the Full Rulebook:
Terrain Placement Rules
Multiple Deployment Styles
Terrain & Objective Effects
Fog of War Rules
Catastrophic Damage Rules
Order Dice Rules
Shields & Defense Tokens Rules
Scanner Ranges Rules
Rules for Planetary Control Games
Rules for Multiplayer Games
Rules for Kitchen Table Games
If you don’t have any spaceship models, you can also pick up our very own 2D and 3D models on Patreon, where we’re releasing a new fleet every month.
This month we’ve released the 2D Empire Fleet and the 3D Empire Fleet, and if you stick with us you’ll have the full set of all fleets as they’re all released.
Next month we’ll also be releasing a set of 2D space terrain with lots of asteroids fields, destroyed ships, space nebulas and more, which you can use to pretty up your table when playing both with 2D and 3D models.
Alright, this should be enough of a preview, now it’s time for you to check out the games yourself. Make sure to join our Discord Server to share pictures of your battles and provide your feedback and ideas!
Note that the Full Rulebook is going to be available exclusively on Patreon until we feel that the game is polished enough for a “final” release, at which point it will be removed and put for sale on our WargameVault store.
Writing Jam Results
A few weeks ago we ran our very first OPR Writing Jam, and finally the results are in!
The writing jam gives participants the opportunity to share their own take on the stories taking place in the OPR universe, writing a one-page story in just 48hrs based on the same single theme: INFINITE LOOP
September has really been a crazy month, we tripled the amount of different units we released for 3D printing, we’ve doubled the amount of armies we released for 2D printing, plus we’ve got 3 new games for everyone.
If you’re not a patron yet, please consider subscribing, as this is the only way we can keep the project alive. Not only do you get a ton of extra content, but also our eternal gratitude.
October Release Previews

Small Game Updates
Moving on to updates for our core games, this week we’re adding a bunch of new units!
The great folks at Stonehorse Gaming have been releasing more and more AoF:R videos, with an awesome how to play video and a battle report. Now they’re also adding new tactics videos which cover all aspects of the game one by one, and are definitely worth checking out.
Three Men and a Wargame Podcast
Last but not least, we wanted to give a shoutout to the Three Men and a Wargame podcast, who were so kind to cover our September releases in full detail.
This week Wyloch’s Armory posted a great how to play Grimdark Future video on YouTube, which covers all aspects of the game and OPR as a whole.
If you’ve never played the game, or have always wondered if you’ve been missing out on something, then this video is for you. Make sure to also check out his battle report series.
Age of Fantasy: Regiments Battle Report
It’s awesome to see more and more videos being made for our games, and this week Stonehorse Gaming also released an awesome battle report for AoF: Regiments. This demo game shows off all of the basics of the game in a single battle, so it’s also perfect for players that are still trying to learn the game.
OPR Community Wiki
Did you know that OPR has an official Community Wiki now?
The wiki was created to provide a place where new players can find more information about our games, as well as find extensive miniatures libraries to know which models can be used for different units.
There are also games and faction pages that fill you in on the background stories of our games, and there are tactics pages to give you a better idea on how to play each faction.
The wiki is pretty new and still needs to be filled with a lot of content, so everyone is welcome to contribute by adding new pages, completing information on existing ones, adding miniature pictures, writing tactics, etc.
There are templates for all sorts of pages, so you just need to copy those and fill them out!
Infected Colonies are settlements that have been infected by a mysterious virus which mutates them into blood-hungry warriors. Those that have been infected are categorized into different stages, with each stage having a different effect on the mutated subject.
Nico makes really amazing models for RPGs and wargames, and if you support him on Patreon you not only get access to his full archive of models, but also get custom miniatures made by him to your liking!
For the next few months we’ll be releasing sets of his lovingly drawn Space Elves models, which come in 4 different colors and feature front and back art.
This week we also released the 3rd chapter of the Jakob’s Path narrative campaign.
This chapter contains 2 new missions, and if you support now you get all previously released chapters as well. Whilst the campaign was written with Battle Brothers vs Orcs in mind, it can be played with any other factions and whatever models you have available.
Chapter 3 – Jakob and his men return from the jungle battered by the heavy fighting, with one of their brothers in critical condition. They hope to find a victorious Khari at the landing zone, but instead will find that they are not alone…
Note that you must be a Tier 3 patron to access to the link above.
This month’s 3D models are going to be available exclusively on Patreon until the 30th of August, after which they will go up for sale on our CGTrader store at a higher price.
Jakob’s Path: Chapter 2
We’re very happy that people have been enjoying Jakob’s Path, and this month we’ve got the 2nd chapter ready for you. Note that by supporting us on Patreon you’ll also have access to chapter 1.
Chapter 2 – After spotting a Goblin holding a precious artifact, Jakob and his men give chase into the thick jungle, which will prove to be a beast all of its own. What perils and wonders expect them past the treeline? Read to find out…
Note that you must be a Tier 2 patron to access to the link above.
This campaign is going to be available exclusively on Patreon until all 5 chapters have been released, after which it will go up for sale on our WargameVault Store at a higher price.
Today’s updates aren’t very big, mostly some small army changes, and we’re adding a new rule for competitive play that limits you to a maximum of 2 targets when splitting fire in Grimdark Future and Age of Fantasy.
Here the army changes:
Interrogators now have Fear
Machine Cult Defilers
Added new unit: Dragonfly Gunship
Re-worked Harvest Blade for Tri-Scorpion Overseer
Vile Rattus Cult
Fixed weapons and upgrades for Halftrack and Warren Drill
Free Dwarf Warrior Model
This week we’ve released one more free model on our Thingiverse page, this time it’s an angry little dwarf ready to bonk you in the head with his hammer. :D
