Community Survey Results

Community Survey, Physical Minis, Video Content, Web Comics

Hi everyone,

This past week we ran our bi-annual community survey, and finally the results are in. Once again the survey has grown by a lot, with 900+ responses, and 400+ comments for us to read!

There’s lots of stuff to go through, so we’ll try to keep this as brief as possible.

Which of these game ideas are you most interested in?

The results here are very similar to our last survey, with mech combat, small-scale games, and skirmish adventure games taking the lead. Good thing that we’re working on all of these already. :)

Which of the OPR games do you play?

Compared to our last poll, it’s interesting to see that as our audience has grown, the number of FTL players has remained about the same. Later this year we’re going to make some big updates to FTL, which will hopefully open the game up to a bigger audience.

How would you like to learn about OPR lore?

In our last poll there was no option for faction guides, and boy are we glad we added it. Whilst the demand for almost everything has stayed the same, faction guides has now become the most popular choice amongst our fans. Realistically, it’s going to take at least 6-12 months before we can start releasing faction guides on a regular basis, but it’s good to see that there’s interest in them.

Do you play using OPR miniatures?

It’s very interesting to see that ~70% of players actually play using OPR miniatures, as we would have expected that number to be much lower until recently. This gives us confidence that our audience responds well to our minis, and that we can keep making players happy with them.

Which Grimdark Future armies do you play?

The player numbers for the different factions have stayed more or less the same as usual, but now with the addition of the Jackals and Eternal Dynasty, which have a solid number of players. As we release more models for different armies, we expect those to go up in ranking as well.

Which Age of Fantasy armies do you play?

Here we have essentially the same results as above, however it seems that Saurians got even more players than before, remaining our most popular faction of all time (which makes sense, because they’re awesome).

Which Warfleets: FTL factions do you play?

FTL fleet numbers have stayed about the same, however Progenitors have now overtaken Xenos in popularity, and the number of players using “Other” fleets has almost doubled (very curious).

Which of these community tools are you interested in?

This was a new question on the poll, and it’s a very interesting result, because we didn’t expect the OPR Wiki to be such a popular choice amongst players. The current wiki is frankly sub-par, and we’re planning on staring a completely new wiki, on a better platform, and with much more content in the future.

Which OPR merch would you be interested in?

Another new question on the poll, and one that we were very curious about. We used to have a merch store a few years back, but decided to shut it down as it didn’t get a lot of traffic. Seeing that 60% of our audience might be interested in buying some merch is very cool, and as we produce more and more cool art, we think merch could be a great opportunity to spread some of the awesomeness around.

Do you have any suggestions for things we should do with OPR (new games, armies, features, etc.)?

Alright, this is the big one. As you can imagine, with over 400 messages, it’s impossible for us to cover everything, but here’s some of the most important takeaways for this survey.

  • Communication: There are still a ton of players that asked for content we already make, which means that our communication is still not that great. We are currently in the process of doing a big website update, which should go live in the next 9-18 months, and which should hopefully resolve a lot of these questions.
  • Example Army Lists: We got a ton of people asking for us to provide some examples of army lists for each army, so that they can get into the game quicker. This is going to be one of those things that will be included as part of our OPR Wiki re-building, giving players a single place to find pre-made army lists.
  • Player Finder: Many of you have asked for a player finder, which clearly shows us that nobody uses the forum, because we have a game finder board there. We’re currently thinking about how a finder system could be implemented, and it might come with the new website, but no promises.
  • Starter Sets: There were many requests for 3D print or physical starter sets, which is something that we’ve been thinking about for a while, and are looking for a good way to implement. Seeing so many people ask for it is definitely giving us motivation to push it further.
  • More Game Content: Lots of players asked for more campaigns, mission packs, and solo/coop games. We’re currently working on all of those, it’s just taking longer to develop than we expected. Once we’ve got the production pipeline well oiled, then we’ll be churning out lots of game content on the regular.
  • Volunteers Program: This was unexpected, but tons of you asked for some sort of volunteers program, in order to help spread the word about OPR games. We’ve never done something like this, but we’ll look into it, and see what sort of tools we can provide to help people run demos and recruit new players.
  • Organized Events Support: Tying into the previous point, there were many comments about providing support for organized events, be it tournaments or otherwise. This is definitely something that we want to support, and are working on some ways to provide event kits and prizes.

The first half of 2022 has been a wild ride for OPR, the project has been growing at an incredible pace, doubling in supporter numbers, which has been both great and problematic. As many of you know, I have been running this project by myself for the last 8 years, and it’s been kind of hard to manage this incredible growth all by myself.

In order to make sure that I can keep expanding OPR to achieve all of these things you’re hoping for, I’ve been growing the team by a lot over the last six months, which has temporarily slowed down the production of many things. That being said, having a bigger team, with members that can take care of different things independently, means that now we’re getting back into gear to fulfill all of our promises.

If everything goes well, there are a ton of things you can look forward to in 2022, such as new games, expansions, short stories, world guides, and of course lots of awesome miniatures. Thank you everyone for your continuous support, none of this would be possible without you, and we’re all working extremely hard to hopefully make you proud! :)

New Physical Minis Discount

As you know, we always try to provide more value for our supporters, and today is one of those days. :)

Over the last 6 months many Patrons kept asking us if it would be possible to have a discount for our physical models on Only-Games, and finally we have an answer!

Starting today all tiers will get a 5% discount code every month, which can be used unlimited times per month. If you’re already a Tier 1 patron, grab it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/60631647

Due to how print-on-demand production works, handing out discount codes is not as straight forward as with digital products, so this is a trial run for us. If this goes well, and the discount code doesn’t cause any issues, then we’ll keep the discount code around (plus maybe add a special 10% discount for stretch goal months).

Hi everyone,

June has just started, and it’s going to be another great month for OPR fans. :)

First off, we’ve got a new webcomic for you, which will serve as a fun introduction to the lore of the Grimdark Future universe for all the uninitiated. Then we’ve got the June Patreon release, with tons of new missions, models, and much more. Finally, we’ve got a bunch of new battle reports for you.

Let’s get to it!

Sirius Business – S01 Introduction

This month we’re kicking off our first ever web comic, with Sirius Business!

Sirius Business follows the adventures of Spoon & Tröt as they explore the Sirius Sector and beyond, and was created by the amazing Pierre Mortel. Today we’ve got a little teaser for you, and the plan is to post a new comic every week, until the season is over. After that, who knows what might come next…

But now, behold, the first glimpse at Sirius Business!

June Patreon Release

This month we’ve got the last wave of Saurians as well as more models for our new Jackals faction. On top of that we’ve also got a new welcome pack, terrain, bases, game aids, rulebooks, and much much more. :)

New Mission Packs

The latest mission pack has been released on Patreon, with 8 brand new missions:

  • Grimdark Future – The Bale Eye Opens + Psychic Nightmare
  • GF: Firefight – Jungle Hunt + Frozen Wasteland
  • Age of Fantasy – Monuments Rise + Forbidden Forest
  • AoF: Skirmish – Tides of Mist + Ring of Fire

These missions are focused on fun new ways to play, with interesting objectives and special rules to spice things up. We release new missions every month, so make sure to stick around so that you don’t miss any.

Note that whilst the missions are designed for each specific game, you can totally play them with the rules for any other game (with slight adjustments). This means that you have even more missions to play each month!

The new Beastmen and Eternal Dynasty sets are available on Patreon.

These sets feature a ton of minis with front and back views in two different color schemes, as well as black & white. They also include black border versions of the minis, plus VTT tokens to play online.

Hive City Gangs v2.50 + MMF Last Chance Models

3D Print, Game Jam, Game Update, Physical Minis, Video Content

Hi everyone,

In just a few hours it’s time for the next game jam already, so make sure to sign up!

The OPR Game Jam is a 48hr game making marathon, focused on creating one-page miniatures games. The game jam runs from May 13th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time, to May 15th, at 8PM UK time / 3PM ET time.

Anyone can submit a game, and you may work alone or in teams. The games will then be judged by the public, and then we will highlight the top 3 voted games on the OPR website. There is no winner or prize, it’s all just for fun!

Sign up for the game jam here (it’s free): https://itch.io/jam/oprgj5

Hive City Gangs v2.50 Available Now

At long last, the Hive City Gangs join the v2.50 beta!

Whilst the gangs have mostly remained the same as you know and love, there have also been some important chases to bring them more in line with the new beta balancing.

To help us with the balancing, we have actually primarily built them as GF lists, which are then auto-translated to GFF like every other army. This helps us ensure that they are treated equally, and also opens up the potential for having the gangs in GF at some point in the future (if players are interested).

Here are the most noticeable changes:

  • Rookies/Gangers are now Quality 5+ / Defense 5+ and Veterans are Quality 4+ / Defense 5+
  • Some units have been consolidated into the Champion profile
  • Hero buffs have been tweaked to be more in line with other v2.50 armies
  • Rookies and Gangers are now divided into a melee profile and a shooting profile
  • Veterans now have the Relentless special rule
  • Upgrade lists have been tweaked to be more specialized between units types
  • Weapons have been tweaked to reflect general v2.50 changes
  • Specialists have been tweaked to have more interesting special rules
  • Ogres have now been split into their own gang with unit tweaks

On paper this seems like a lot of changes, but in practice it’s mostly just shuffling things around and making sure they are in line with v2.50 changes. If you were already playing with Hive City Gangs before, you can expect everything to feel about the same, with a little more balance. :)

New Miniatures on Only-Games

Don’t care for 2D printing or 3D printing? Well then we’ve got you covered, because now all of the minis we released in April have been uploaded to our Only-Games Store.

MMF – Models Removed Soon

At the end of the month we’re going to permanently archive some of our oldest models on MMF, which don’t reflect our vision of OPR models anymore. If you want to buy the models, make sure to get them before the 31st of May!

The models are only going to be archived on MMF, so don’t worry, this means that if you bought the models, they will stay in your MMF library forever. The only thing that’s changing is that the models won’t be available for purchase anymore.

Here are the models that will be archived:

  • All Dwarf models (including Bases and Game Aids)
  • All Battle Sisters models (including Bases and Game Aids)
  • All of the Great Daemon models

Some of these models (such as the Bases and Game Aids) might come back in the future once we re-visit those armies, but otherwise we’re not planning on bringing them back.

Hi everyone,

We hope you liked last week’s April Fools joke, and enjoyed the free models. :)

Over this past week we’ve been mainly working on releasing all of the new April patreon content, whilst also slowly chipping away at all the other projects we’ve got cooking. We’re happy to say that the development of Sellswords is going forward really nicely, and are looking forward to posting some sort of public beta at some point in the future, so that we can gather more feedback.

Other than that, we’ve also been preparing a cool special illustration for the OPR anniversary next week, and some of us are also going to take some much deserved time off in the coming weeks. We have tons of stuff to show off from the April releases this week, so let’s get to it!

Thanks for participating everyone! :D

AoF v2.50 (beta) Update

Last week we finally released the AoF v2.50 (beta) army lists, and it’s been great hearing everyone’s feedback, and discussing the intricacies of this new version with fans. We have already caught quite a few bugs that we’ll be fixing, but overall this has been quite a good release so far, without any major broken bits.

Over the next week we’ll try to fix as many things as we can, before also launching the AoF Skirmish v2.50 (beta) at the end of the week. After that we’ll focus on getting the Hive Gangs and the War Cry Clans completed, and then we’ll start looking into taking these lists out of beta.

We’d like to remind everyone that during the beta period, changes are made without warning or explanation, and the list you play today might be completely different tomorrow. A few weeks ago we also made a post explaining the thinking behind the AoF v2.50 beta, so make sure to check it out here.

AoF v2.50 Explained, New Releases + More

New Release, Physical Minis, Video Content, Writing Jam

Hi everyone,

Today we’ve got an interesting update for you, with an explanation of AoF v2.50, an overview of all the new February content, as well as a bunch of videos for you to check out.

Let’s get to it!

Writing Jam Reminder

Only 2 weeks until the next Writing Jam everyone!

The official OPR Writing Jam #4 will take place on the weekend of the 18th of February, so make sure to save the date. This is a 48hr story writing marathon, focused on writing one-page stories set in the OPR universe.

Sign up here: https://itch.io/jam/oprwj4

AoF v2.50 Explained

Progress on AoF v2.50 has been going well, and if everything works out the way we hope, then the beta will be available to play in a couple of weeks. In preparation for its release, we wanted to take a moment and give you an overview of what is changing from the current versions.

If you’ve been following the development of GF v2.50, most of this stuff will be already familiar to you, so we’re gonna try and keep this one brief and to the point. Overall the changes in GF were much bigger than they are in AoF, so chances are you won’t notice any significant differences whilst playing.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • No Bad Picks – Some units are currently useless without taking specific upgrades, so we’re tweaking those in such a way that they are always viable to play (even without upgrades).
  • Unit Power – The attack power of certain units is currently too low / too high relative to their Tough stat, so they’re being tweaked to make sure that nothing is too weak / too strong in the game.
  • 2+ and 6+ The probability of 2+ and 6+ stats is hard to balance in both cost and feel, so we are reducing the amount of units with these stats. This means that most Archer units now have Defense 5+.
  • Heroes – Similarly to GF, hero profiles are being condensed in order to save space, and give you more options. They now also have access to new unit buffs, as well as army battle standards, giving you a lot more flexibility when customizing your heroes.
  • Wizards – Again, similar to GF, most spells casters are going down from lvl2 to lvl1, with lvl2 being reserved for legendary units, and lvl3 being removed from the game.
  • Unit Sizes Currently there is little reason to take some of the basic infantry units compared to elite units, leading to bad picks. In order to balance that, most elite units are now in blocks of 5, whilst basic infantry come in blocks of 10.
  • Special Weapons Right now all basic infantry units have access to Dual Hand Weapons and Great Weapons upgrades, which has skewed the balance of the game. In v2.50, those upgrades are now only available on elite units, whilst basic infantry only get access to Spears and Halberds as upgrades.
  • Weapon Ranges The range of weapons has now been capped at 36″, with most artillery now being in the 30″-36″ range. Crossbows will have 24″ range, whilst Rifles have 18″ range (and Pistols 9″ range).
  • Chariot Changes – Chariots are going down to Defense 3+, and are getting more melee attacks. Also, when taking archer crews for chariots, they now fire more shots (but get less melee attacks).
  • Monster Changes – Monsters are going down to Defense 3+ as well, but most of them are going up to Tough(12) to compensate. They’re also getting more attacks, and similarly to chariots, when taking ranged options they have more shots (but less melee attacks).
  • Artillery Changes – Artillery profiles are being condensed, so that we don’t have half a page of essentially the same unit with different weapon options. Most artillery weapons now also have double the amount of attacks that they used to, making them a little more reliable when shooting.

We know that change is hard for everyone to accept, but as we’ve seen with GF v2.50, these new versions are a vast improvement to the balance of our games, so they’re worth it.

Once you’ve played a couple of matches and got used to these changes, you won’t even remember they ever happened, and will be able to enjoy a more balanced and fun experience all around. :)

Also, please don’t forget that this is a beta, and things are still going to be tweaked, so once the armies are available we’re looking forward to hearing your feedback.

New Mission Packs

The latest mission pack has been released on Patreon, with 4 brand new missions:

  • Grimdark Future – Secure the Drops
  • GF: Firefight – Hit & Run
  • Age of Fantasy – Opening Duel
  • AoF: Skirmish – Grand Tournament

These missions are focused on fun new ways to play, with interesting objectives and special rules to spice things up. We release new missions every month, so make sure to stick around so that you don’t miss any.

Note that whilst the missions are designed for each specific game, you can totally play them with the rules for any other game (with slight adjustments). This means that you have even more missions to play each month!

New Year, New Game Version!

Game Update, Video Content, 3D Print, New Release, Physical Minis

Hi everyone,

Today we’re very excited to kick off the new year with a new version of our games, as well as a ton of other stuff for you to see, from new physical minis, to new pics of painted models.

Let’s get to it!

New Game Versions

Over the last few months we’ve been working really hard on updating all of the core rules, basic rulebooks and full rulebooks for all of our games, and it’s finally time to release these new version for everyone to enjoy.

This is a mostly superficial update, with 99% of the updates being either rule clarifications or grammatical fixes, which don’t change how the game is played, and so we won’t bore you with the details. Suffice to say, those 99% of updates are subtle enough that you won’t even notice they ever happened, but they serve to improve the quality of our rules.

The are some other instances where it might seem that a rule has changed, but instead it was just clarified from what its original intention was. For example, Aircraft was never meant to be able to seize objectives, so we’ve clarified that by explicitly stating that it can’t. Basically, some of the FAQ stuff is now in the rules.

The other 1% of changes however, we should highlight so that you won’t miss them:

  • Blast now ignores cover, and can’t deal more hits than models in the tagret unit.
  • Anti-Air is now called Lock-On, and ignores all negative modifiers to hit rolls and range.
  • In AoFS, each army may now only take one Sergeant, Musician or Banner.

The biggest change that affects all games is to the Blast rule. Until now, the Blast rule was essentially just fluff, as it was a straight multiplier to the number of hits dealt. With this new version, we wanted to give the Blast rule more functionality by making it ignore cover, as well as giving it a specialized anti-horde role. Blast now can’t deal more hits than models in the target, which means that now a weapon with A1 Blast(6) firing at a lonely hero or tank can only deal max. 1 hit to it.

Another important update, which only applies to GF and GFF, is that the “Anti-Air” rule has been re-named to “Lock-On”, and has been given more functionality. It was very limiting to have a rule that essentially only works if the enemy has Aircraft, so now the Lock-On rule ignores negative modifiers to hit rolls and range instead. This means that it retains its functionality as an anti-aircraft weapon, but can now also be used more effectively against targets in cover, targets with shield wall, etc.

Finally, we’ve changed the limitation of Command Group models in AoFS from being able to take one model of each type (Sergeant, Musician, Banner), to only being able to take one model of any type. We found that at such small game sizes, being able to stack the bonuses together was too powerful, so it was changed.

That’s it for the most important changes to gameplay.

We’re going to be closely monitoring feedback on the new versions over the next month, to see if anyone can catch some grammatical mistakes we’ve missed, or if some of the new text is still unclear. If this period of testing goes well, then we’re going to work on finally getting you physical version of the rulebooks later this year. The physical rulebooks will be made available through PoD on WGV/DTRPG, and we’ll provide more info as things move forward.

Enjoy the new changes! :)

New Mission Packs

The January mission pack has been released on Patreon, with 4 brand new missions:

  • Grimdark Future – Fire & Rubble
  • GF: Firefight – Spec Ops
  • Age of Fantasy – Lost in the Mist
  • AoF: Skirmish – Bloodbath

These missions are focused on fun new ways to play, with interesting objectives and special rules to spice things up. We release new missions every month, so make sure to stick around so that you don’t miss any.

Note that whilst the missions are designed for each specific game, you can totally play them with the rules for any other game (with slight adjustments). This means that you have even more missions to play each month!

Happy New Year!

New Release, Painting Contest, Video Content

Hi everyone,

It’s the last day of the year, so I won’t keep you for long. We’ve got a small roadmap overview for 2022, a new army for Grimdark Future, a discount on our physical minis store, and finally some new video content for you.

Let’s get to it!

Final Post – Roadmap for 2022

2021 has been a crazy year, and I can’t believe by how much the project has grown, so first off all, thank you for playing and thank you for your support. With your help we were able to release 350+ minis, 30+ missions and much much more this year, which is incredible!

Over the last 12 months OPR has grown from a small one-man project into a full-blown company with lots of talented artists and sculptors, and together we’re going to be working towards expanding OPR to bring you more amazing stuff at higher quality in the next 12 months.

When it comes to our miniatures offering, we are going to keep releasing new armies and terrain over the next year, as well as start releasing small-scale miniatures in mid-2022. When it comes to the rest, well, we have lots of things coming that we’re super excited about!

Here’s what you can expect from 2022:

  • Complete website re-vamp
  • New army builder for all Patrons
  • Bring v2.50 out of beta for all games
  • Release new skirmish adventure games (GF: Mercs & AoF: Sellswords)
  • Release new small-scale games (GF: Commander & AoF: Generals)
  • Port Warfleets: FTL to the Grimdark Future universe
  • Re-work and expand the army book lore
  • Re-work and expand artwork for all games
  • Release mission packs for all games
  • Release new narrative campaigns
  • Release new game expansions

It’s going to be a ton of work, with lots of new stuff coming, but we’re excited to be working on it. Of course the things listed above are not everything that you can expect next year, and there is much more to come, but we’re not going to be spoiling the surprise just yet.

Thanks again for all of your support, we couldn’t have done this without you!

Eternal Dynasty Rules

It’s been a while since we added a new army to the games, so we’re really happy to announce that the rules for our new Eternal Dynasty faction have been uploaded on Google Drive and the OPR WebApp.

The Eternal Dynasty was originally supported to be a proxy for the TAO Coalition, but quickly became its own thing, with its own aesthetic and unique models. That being said, there is still enough overlap in terms of unit types, that you can use your TAO Coalition models to play this faction.

In terms of gameplay, whilst they might seem similar to the TAO Coalition at first glance, they’re actually quite difference. The Eternal Dynasty have Quality 4+ and Fearless, and their focus is on short- to mid-range shooting, with some long-range specialists as support units. They have a wide selection of melee units too, from the spear-wielding Royal Guard, to stealthy Ninja, and a host of Robo-Animals to choose from.

We hope you enjoy this army, and can’t wait to show off the models as they are released.

Community Survey Results

Community Survey, Physical Minis, Video Content

Hi everyone,

Today we’ve got a super interesting update, with the community survey results, some info on v2.50 progress, a price review for only-games, and finally a ton of new videos.

Let’s get to it!

Community Survey Results

Over the last week we ran our bi-annual community survey, and the results are in. With over 600 responses, and over 250 messages to read, this has been the biggest survey to date, with some very interesting results.

There’s lots of stuff to go through, so we’ll try to keep this as brief as possible.

Which of these game ideas are you most interested in?

For this survey, we wanted to focus on giving players a selection of games to pick from that actually reflect things we are interested in making, rather than the much more open surveys of the past.

Nonetheless, the results are pretty similar to our last few surveys, with Skirmish Adventure RPGs, Small-Scale Battles, and Mech Combat being the strongest genres. We added a few extra options for fleet-style games, and were surprised to see so many votes for Large-Scale Ship Battles, which is cool.

How would you like to learn about OPR lore?

Note: When we first launched the survey, we forgot to add the Narrative Campaigns option, and only noticed after ~50 people already too the survey. Seeing the amount of votes it got, we suspect that it would probably have gotten ~40 more votes in the end.

When it comes to learning about OPR lore, it seems that we are mostly doing things right, with people preferring the Army Book Intros and Narrative Campaigns to get their lore. It’s also interesting to see that people would like to read Short Stories without them being tied to gameplay as well, so that’s definitely something that we’re going to explore in the future.

Which of the OPR games do you play?

Note: The survey also included all of the one-off games individually, but since less than 5% of people play those, we decided to cut them from the graph.

The played games results are as expected, with most people playing Grimdark Future, and AoF: Regiments being the least played game. It’s nice to see that a good chunk of people are playing Warfleets: FTL, which gives us confidence to keep expanding on the game and genre.

Do you play using OPR miniatures?

This was a very surprising result for us. Until now, every survey we did over the years has been predominantly answered by people that use other miniatures, and seeing that almost 70% of players are using OPR minis of some form is a huge shift.

This result is actually a big revelation, because it completely changes our perspective on the votes for the next two questions, and also what type of messages we received at the end.

Which Grimdark Future armies do you play?

Because around 60% of players that answered the survey are using official OPR minis, this has completely shifted the results of this question. Where usually Battle Brothers and HDF are at the top, we now have lots of Alien Hives and Robot Legions players.

This is very cool to see, but it does make things a little skewed. Our suspicion is that as we release more official OPR armies, those armies will be at the top of the chart.

Which Age of Fantasy armies do you play?

Same as above, due to the official OPR minis the chart is heavily skewed towards Mummified Undead and Saurians, with Duchies of Vinci and Beastmen also lunging forward. Just for reference, our usual top charters in the last few surveys were Humans, Goblins, Orcs and Vampiric Undead.

Which Warfleets: FTL factions do you play?

We sort of just threw this one in there without any expectations, but the results are very interesting. Whilst overall it’s quite balanced, most people seem to be playing Empire, Xenos and Marauders. It’s also cool to see that about 15% of people are playing Other factions, which we assume means they’re using the fleet creation rules from the core rules to play custom fleets.

Do you have any suggestions for things we should do with OPR (new games, armies, features, etc.)?

This is the big one. With over 250 messages, it’s impossible to write everything here, so we will bullet point the most important takeaways. Don’t worry, we read all of your messages, so even if you don’t see your feedback mentioned here, we are keeping it in mind. :)

  • Communication: There are still many players that are asking for content we already makes, which makes us think that our communication is still not on point. We’re going to be doing a big website update in the next 1-2 years, and are hoping that it will help consolidate everything and make content easier to discover.
  • Solo/Coop: Many players are asking for solo/coop content, which is very fitting, as Sellswords/Mercs are games specifically designed to fill that niche. We know that it’s been taking a long time to develop them, but we want to get them absolutely right before release, so they’ll be out when they’re ready.
  • Campaign System: A lot of you have asked for more campaign systems. We have plans for a large-scale campaign system, with map control and resources, as well as a skirmish-scale campaign system for fantasy, similar to Gang Wars. No ETA on those, but they’re in the plans.
  • Unit Creator: It seems that many players are still not aware that we already have a custom unit creator, which you can get on Patreon. In the next few months we’re going to further expand it, allowing you to build entire armies and share them with the community with ease.
  • Specific Armies/Settings: There are many requests for armies to cover specific settings, historicals, etc. and this is all going to be solved once the expanded army creator is available. The army creator is going to revolutionize what kind of armies you can play, and open up a new world for OPR.
  • List Builder: It also seems that many players don’t know that we already have a List Builder for v2.50 that replaces BattleScribe, and which will be expanded to cover all games. Don’t worry though, all armies will continue to be available as downloadable PDFs as well.
  • More FTL Content: We were surprised to see a huge amount of messages asking for more FTL content, from expanding the available armies, to releasing new expansions, as well as making more 3D models. We have great plans for FTL in the future, so keep your eyes peeled!
  • Physical Rulebooks: This is something players have been asking for a while, and we are on it. The physical rulebooks were originally supposed to be released in September, but due to some important grammar reviews and game changes that are coming soon, they have been put on hold. We are hoping to be able to provide them by early 2022, so don’t give up yet.
  • Paper Minis: The paper minis topic is quite large, and could warrant its own post, but we hear your concerns about wanting more paper minis options. The reality is that only ~5% of our players actually use paper minis, so it’s hard to commit a lot of resources to something that is barely used. Despite this, our new packs have more minis, with more poses, more weapon options and more heads, and we will keep expanding them.
  • Thank You’s: Finally, a lot of you have used the feedback space to just say thank you or give us compliments, which we highly appreciate. It’s very heart warming to read your kind words, and makes all of this hard work worth it.

Thank you everyone for taking the survey and providing your feedback, we still have a long road ahead of us, and hope that you’ll keep coming along for the ride! :)

v2.50 Progress

We know that since the release of GF v2.50 there has seemingly been a bit of radio silence on army updates, and some people have asked us if we stopped making game updates, so we thought it would be good to explain exactly what is happening.

First of all, the army updates are not stopped, and we update v2.50 on a weekly basis.

The reason why there have been no updates here in the news posts, is because right now the army lists are still in beta, and with that there are lots of changes all the time. Sometimes we change the same thing in multiple ways during the same week, and it’s simply not feasible to log all the changes here.

We’re also currently putting the addition of new units on hold, at least until things are more stable. We know that some of you have minis that are currently not represented in the rules, and we will add them in the future.

So don’t worry, we are still working on the games. Once the lists are stable, and v2.50 comes out of beta, the changes will not be as frequent anymore, and with that we will go back to our regular news posts updates with changelogs.

In the meantime, you can check out the v2.50 beta here.

Only-Games Price Updates

About a year ago, we launched our Physical Minis Store to buy models from, to make our armies accessible to all of those that don’t have a 3D printer. After a year, it is time for us to update our prices, and we want to be fully transparent about what is happening and why.

When we set out to do this, we tried to compete with the prices of plastic miniatures, because those are what people are most familiar with. Over the past year however it has become clear that producing high quality resin minis at our current margins is simply not sustainable.

There are many instances where we are basically giving out the miniatures for free, or where we actually have losses. Add to that the amount of time and effort that goes into managing the store, marketing the minis, and handling customer service, and things get messy.

So, with that in mind, we are currently updating the prices on our Only-Games Store. We still want to keep our minis accessible, and are only updating the prices of minis where necessary.

Overall this means that there is a price increase of about $1-$2 per infantry mini, and a bit more for larger minis. In order to ensure that we can give you the lowest price possible for different minis, we are also doing away with our fixed prices per unit types, which actually means that some minis are getting cheaper.

In order to try to offset this price increase, we are currently discussing with our manufacturer how we could provide free shipping, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we know more.
