Game Jam Results + New Models

2D Print, 3D Print, Game Jam, Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

Today we’re going to be highlighting a couple of cool games from the game jam, and we’ve also got some new 3D print and 2D paper models for you. Oh, and a little teaser at the end…

Game Jam Results

This year’s game jam was a great success, with 65 participants creating 23 awesome games, we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out (especially for a first try)!

Now that everyone has had a chance to check out and rate the various games, we wanted to highlight a couple of them that we found particularly interesting. These are not the “best” games or the “winners” of the jam, but simply some of the games that sparked our imagination.

You can check out the top rated games by the community here: https://itch.io/jam/oprgj2020/results

Now then, let’s get on with it!

The Night of the Hunt by Joe Fonseca

The Night of the Hunt is really interesting because it takes the concept of asymmetric design and really runs with it, whilst also remaining enough in familiar territory that it’s really intuitive to play. Since this was the top rated game of the jam we’ll be diving deep into what makes it so awesome. :D

One player takes the role of the monster, a single powerful entity set out to cause mayhem in town, whilst the other player controls a group of hunters that want to rid the world of this evil.

There are lots of cool features in this game, such as the varied objectives available and the high level of customization for both the monster and the hunters, but the most interesting feature is how different the monster plays from the hunters.

This is because whilst the monster is alone, it starts out with a lot of information that the hunters don’t have, making for a tense game of cat and mouse. The monster starts out in a hidden state, with no model on the board, and controls its movement and actions by noting them secretly on a piece of paper. In the meantime the hunters are going around trying to find him before he completes his secret objective.

It’s this disparity of information that leads to some really interesting situations, with the monster hiding in the shadows and then jumping out to devour a hunter before hiding again. Really exciting stuff!

We can imagine it being very interesting to try out the game with multiple players each controlling a hunter, or even adding in a second monster for more mayhem.

Super cool game, definitely give it a try: https://rabid-tucan.itch.io/the-night-of-the-hunt

Mechanichrome by Aaron Richardson

Mechanichrome also executes beautifully on the concept of asymmetric design, but takes it in a very different direction, with one player taking control of a band of explorers, whilst the other player acts almost as a GM, preparing the ruins with traps and using the guards that protect the data treasure.

What makes this game really interesting is that almost everything is controlled via a deck of cards, from exploring new parts of the ruins to attacking or grabbing treasure, and the interactions between the cards can add really interesting twists to how the game plays out.

Add a high level of customization of explorer stats as well as lots of different guard types and other threats, and you’ve got yourself an exciting game of exploration and high stakes combat.

Grab yourself a deck of cards and check it out: https://ansr-games.itch.io/mechanichrome

TuX_eU

Super Ranger Squadron by StarHunter Blue

Super Ranger Squadron immediately caught our eye thanks to its colorful sentai setting, but actually ended up having us hooked to its suit-based card mechanics. The game has interesting asymmetric design with one player controlling 5 customizable rangers, whilst the other player controls endless waves of bad guys.

The rangers have special powers that are only activated when a specific suit is drawn, and their goal is to remove specific cards from their deck, lowing their overall strength but bringing them closer to their objective. The bad guy on the other hand has a random objective that he has to complete, whilst trying to stall the rangers long enough so that they can’t assemble all aces and joker.

This game is really interesting because everything is controlled via a deck of cards, and it also has lots of fun mechanics on top of that, such as the bad guys picking up rangers and running off with them. :D

Assemble your rangers and give it a try: https://starhunterblue.itch.io/super-ranger-squadron

0_xWgQ

Vostok by Erik C. Battle

Finally we’ve got to mention Vostok, which even though didn’t really follow the asymmetric design theme was far to interesting for us to pass by in this highlight section.

Vostok is a solo survival game set in a post-apocalyptic frozen wasteland. Players start off by creating a custom tribe and then set out to explore the wasteland during the day, and then do upkeep at night.

The game uses a really interesting 2D6 system for all of its actions, with the wasteland “reacting” based on the rolls, which makes for very tense exploration where every roll could bring out new dangers. Then during the night your tribe members advance their abilities, and they can even conceive children which grow up and can go out on missions as well once they’ve become adults.

This game is filled with interesting ideas, and we highly encourage the creator to keep working on it, because this could become something epic (feel free to drop us an e-mail if you need any advice).

23 New Games + New 3D Models

3D Print, Game Jam, Game Update, Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

Today we’ve got a TON of new one-page games for you to try, some awesome new 3D print models, an update for the Deep-Sea Elves and some new Quickplay Armies.

Play & Rate 23 New Games

Last weekend we ran the very first OPR Game Jam, which was a ton of fun and resulted in the creation of 23 awesome new games!

The theme for the jam was “Asymmetric Design”, which sparked a lot of cool and unexpected ideas, making for some truly unique games, so make sure to take a look at all of them (which should be pretty quick as they’re all one-page games).

jam games

Now that the jam is over we need everyone to check out the games and rate them, which is completely anonymous and open to the public, so even if you didn’t take part in the game jam you can still give your opinion.

The criteria for ratings are “Design”, “Originality” and “Adherence to the Theme”, and whilst there is no winner or prize, we’ll make sure to highlight some of the most interesting games in next week’s news post.

Check out the games here: https://itch.io/jam/oprgj2020/entries

We’d like to thank everyone that participated in the jam, and we’re looking forward to hosting a new one next year to see what crazy new games you come up with. :D

Note: If you want to help out games that didn’t get a lot of ratings yet you can filter by “least rated” or click on “submissions in need of ratings”.

Wolf Brothers vs Orc Marauders – Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

There’s a big box of new models out there and we couldn’t help but come up with some lists for it to get you started. These lists feature some sneaky Wolf Brothers taking on a beefy list of Orc Marauders, making for some rather interesting gameplay.

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Wolf Brothers vs Orc Marauders

Prime Brothers of the Wolf Detachment

  • 1x Captain w/ Counter, Camo Cloak, Pistol & Energy Sword
  • 5x Infiltration Squad w/ Counter
  • 5x Infiltration Squad w/ Counter

Orc Marauders

  • 1x Warlord w/ Ultra Armor, Twin Carbine & Ultra Claw
  • 5x Boss Mob w/ 1x Carbine + Heavy Flamethrower Attachment
  • 3x Ultra Bosses w/ 1x Dual Ultra Sawblades, 1x Twin Carbine & 1x Carbine + Heavy Flamethrower Attachment

The Wolf Brothers in this set are all about using Scout to control key regions and secure objectives early in the match. The list comes with a Captain with Camo Cloak that can hold his own, whilst the Infiltrators can use their Rending Carbines to take out heavily armored troops with ease. Don’t forget that everyone has Counter, so you can go toe-to-toe with the Orcs in melee.

The Orc Marauders on the other side focus on raw melee power combined with a hefty dose of Heavy Flamethrowers. The Warlord is a massive beast that can effortlessly take on entire squads, whilst the Utra Bosses can withstand sustained fire whilst they slowly move across the battlefield. Make sure to use your Boss Mob to strategically soak up some fire, and don’t be afraid to charge head-first into the enemy.

That’s it for today, make sure to rate all of those awesome game jam games, and we’ll be back next week with the results. :)

Sky-City Dwarves vs Disciples of Change

Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

Recently my laptop died (RIP Fujitsu AH532, you served me well) so right now I’m trying to get a new one up and running ASAP.

All of the project files were backed up in the cloud so we didn’t lose anything, however this means that work on the project has slowed down for now.

In the meantime we thought it would be cool to bring you some Quickplay Armies for one of the cooler boxed sets released recently, and hopefully there will be more of these coming out this year! :)

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

For far too long have the Sky-City Dwarves felt safe high in the clouds, but not for much longer, as the Disciples of Change have taken up arms and are flying straight at them with their deadly daemonic discs.

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Sky-City Dwarves vs Disciples of Change

Sky-City Dwarves

  • 1x Sky-Gunboat
  • 3x Balloon Wardens w/ Sky-Mines
  • 3x Balloon Riggers

Disciples of Change

  • 1x Birdman Shaman w/ Disc of Change & Wizard(2)
  • 3x Birdmen Disc Riders w/ Lances & Bows of Fate
  • 3x Birdmen Disc Riders w/ Lances & Bows of Fate
  • 3x Manta Daemons

The Sky-City Dwarves in this set focus try to make up for their small numbers by boasting high toughness and solid defense. The list comes with a powerful Sky-Gunboat that can wreak havoc with a variety of ranged weapons, as well as Baloon Wardens that pose a big threat to melee units with their Sky-Mines.

The Disciples of Change on the other side focus on crazed birdmen that launch into battle with their razor sharp flying discs. The list comes with a Bidman Shaman that can cast powerful offensive spells, as well as a pack of Manta Daemons that devour their foes in melee whilst also being able to take quite a beating.

Take the survey here (it’s only 4 questions): https://forms.gle/pRm8gMXrmDNsYbXNA

Right now we’re trying to have everything ready as soon as possible so that you can get some cool OPR merch delivered by Christmas, but no promises.

The Battle Sisters

With the release of some awesome new Battle Sisters models we thought it’s about time to give the Battle Sisters the spotlight that they deserve!

For those of you new to the Grimdark Future lore, here are the basics:

The Battle Sisters are a splinter faction of the Battle Brothers, which follow the lead of their own god-queen instead of the conservative god-king.

Once the god-king declared women to be unfit to fight the god-queen decided that she had enough and took off to start her own army of brave warriors, copying the technology of the Battle Brothers, even if not always perfectly.

Whilst this means that they lack a little bit in toughness it doesn’t make them any less fierce when it comes to war, and in some ways they greatly outshine the Battle Brothers.

Grimdark-Sisters-2.png

Latest Update

To reflect this piece of the lore we’ve recently updated the Battle Sisters, adding in a ton of new units that are using similar technology to that of the Battle Brothers.

In the new Battle Sisters army books you will find rules for Battle Sisters in Destroyer Armor and on Combat Bikes, as well as a new Psychic with her own powerful spells.

We’ve also added in some more goodies with new weapons for most units, as well as one of their favorite toys: the Flamethrower Sniper Rifle. :D

With all of these rules improvements and custom modelling opportunities there’s never been a better time to start playing Battle Sisters.

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

Are you hot for the Battle Sisters already? Well then we’ve got a cool mashup for you this week, allowing you to immediately get started and play out one of the oldest conflicts in the Grimdark Future lore with these new Quickplay Armies.

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Battle Sisters vs Battle Brothers

Battle Sisters

  • 1x High Sister w/ Blind Faith, Pistol & Energy Sword
  • 10x Battle Sisters w/ 1x Flamethrower, 1x Fusion Rifle & Sacred Banner
  • 5x Assault Sisters w/ 1x Plasma Pistol & Energy Sword
  • 5x Fanatic Sisters w/ Shock Whips
  • 3x Flagellants
  • 1x Assault Walker w/ Walker Sawblades

Battle Brothers

  • 1x Captain w/ Destroyer Armor, Storm Rifle & Energy Sword
  • 5x Battle Brothers
  • 5x Battle Brothers
  • 1x Attack Walker & Heavy Minigun

The Battle Sisters in this set focus on a variety of short-range to mid-range infantry units supported by a dangerous Assault Walker. The list comes with a High Sister that can boost her unit with Blind Faith, as well as crazed Fanatic Sisters that rush into battle and can deal tremendous damage with their Heavy Chainsaw Swords.

The Battle Brothers on the other side focus on a simple setup of Battle Brothers that can use their versatility to hold their own both at range and in melee. The list comes with a Captain in Destroyer Armor that can Ambush behind enemy lines, as well as a powerful Attack Walker that mows down enemies with its Heavy Minigun.

That’s it for today, hope this update gave you all the inspiration you needed to start a new Battle Sisters army or dust off your old collection. :)

Ossified Undead Join The Battle!

Game Update, Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

Today we’re excited to bring you a new army for Age of Fantasy, as well as some new Quickplay Armies for you to give them a try!

Ossified Undead

The Ossified Undead are a bunch of crazed mutated skeletons that were constructed by cursed necromancers that are seeking revenge from their old vampire lord allies.

Basically at some point the vampire lords used to fight alongside these necromancers in order to conquer Tyria, but once the fighting was over they were too greedy to give up some of their new land.

This lead them to magically mutated the necromancers into skeletons, who didn’t take well to their new predicament (go figure).

In retaliation they used dark magic to put together new skeleton warriors from the remains of their fallen brethren, and are now seeking to destroy the vampiric undead.

Gameplay wise the army is extremely resiliant, with all units having the Regeneration rule, however it’s also very sluggish, with all units having the Slow rule.

Overall expect to have a much more reliable force than other undead armies, with some interesting heroes and monsters.

Fantasy-Ossified.png

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

To give your new Ossified Undead a try we’re bringing you a set of Quickplay Armies that reflect the slaughter that awaits those that stand in their path. This is a great battle as both forces are highly resilient, so you’ll have to bring your best game in order to kill your enemies as fast as you can.

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Ossified Undead vs Ogres

Ossified Undead

  • 1x Bone Master w/ Wizard(3) & Headhunter Trophies
  • 10x Guardians w/ Spears, 1x Soul Blade & Command Group
  • 3x Stalkers w/ 2x Falchions
  • 2x Skeleton Harbinger Horrors

Ogres

  • 1x Warchief w/ 2x Hand Weapons
  • 6x Ogres
  • 2x Shooters
  • 1x Cannon Chariot

The Ossified Undead in this set focus on a powerful hero that is protected by a small defensive force. The list comes with a Bone Master that can give friendly units Poison in melee to deal tons of hits, as well as deadly Stalkers that can adapt to every combat situation with their Combat Stance ability.

The Ogres on the other side focus on a solid battle line of Ogre troops, backed up by utterly destructive ranged units. The list comes with a terrifying Warchief that can dish out lots of damage with its 2x Hand Weapons, as well as a Cannon Chariot that can blow up even the strongest units from across the table.

That’s it for today, hope you enjoy this new army. Next week we’ll be back with more news regarding the Wave 3 updates.

AI Rules for Solo-Play, New Army Books Layout, Upcoming Balance Changes and More!

Game Update, Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

Today we have a lot of VERY exciting updates for you, which may change how you play OPR games forever. We’ve been working very hard on these things for months, and it’s very satisfying to get them out to you, so let’s go!

AI Rules for Solo-Play

Here’s a scenario you might be familiar with: You’re finally done building and painting your newest models, you’ve built some matching terrain to go with them, you’ve put together an awesome army list to try out a new strategy… and then nobody is available to play. :(

Well that’s something you won’t have to worry about anymore, because today we’re releasing a brand new set of shiny AI Rules for solo-play. :D

The AI Rules are pretty simple to use: before the game you assign each unit a type, be it a melee unit, shooting unit, or a hybrid of both. Then once you are playing you randomly determine which unit activates next, and depending on its unit type you follow a very straight forward decision tree to see what it does next.

For those of you that want to take things one step further the AI Rules also come with guidelines on how to randomly create AI armies, randomly place objectives, randomly deploy AI armies, and details on how to handle terrain, special rules, spell casting, etc.

These rules are perfect to play solo games against the AI, play coop games with multiple players against the AI, play mixed games with teams of players and AI, or even just play games of AI vs AI and watch them fight to the death!

Additionally these rules can serve as a baseline for you to create you own AI rules, come up with narrative scenarios, or do whatever else your heart desires. Hell, you could even write a full single-player campaign using these rules, so the possibilities are endless.

The AI rules are available for both big battle games as well as skirmish games, and we’re going to be refining the over time. Any and all feedback is very welcome here, because we’re sure that some AI moves that make complete sense in our heads won’t make any sense in yours, so let us know where we messed up!

Grimdark-Rebels

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

To give you a taste of the new AI Rules we’ve come up with a classic sci-fi battle of soldiers fighting off hordes of zombie-like creatures. This is a GF: Firefight set and we recommend playing a game as the Rebel Guerrillas against the AI first and then playing as the Infected Colonies against the AI second… there’s nothing like seeing a fight from both sides!

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Rebel Guerrillas vs Infected Colonies

Rebel Guerrillas

  • 1x Commander w/ Inspiring, Shotgun & Energy Sword
  • 3x Rebels w/ 1x Minigun & 1x Gun Drone
  • 3x Rebels w/ 1x Plasma Rifle & 1x Gun Drone
  • 1x Chelonian w/ Wrist-Flamer & Wrist-GL

Infected Colonies

  • 1x Monstrous Tyrant
  • 3x Zombies
  • 3x Infected w/ 1x Infected Dog, 1x Pistol & CCW
  • 3x Infected w/ 1x Grenade Launcher
  • 1x Infected Hunter

The Rebel Guerrillas in this set focus on bringing a variety of different ranged weapons and Gun Drone to try and fend off the infected from a distance. The list comes which a Chelonian that can be very deadly up close, whilst the Commander can keep his soldiers in the fight with his Inspiring rule.

The Infected Colonies on the other side focus on a mass of mindless fighters backed up by a brutal Monstrous Tyrant. Whilst the majority of the army is not very strong their numbers shouldn’t be underestimated, and watch out for the Infected Hunter who can pounce at enemies from around corners and take them out in one swipe.

Grimdark-Infected.png

New Army Books Layout

Is it finally time to update our army books with the new look? Yes it definitely is!

Over the next months we’re going to be updating all of our existing army books to a new layout, which should make them look a lot better than what we have now. You can expect each army book to come with a cool thematic illustration, a clean and pretty font, as well as some stylish page borders.

We’d love to show you a preview of what they’ll look like, but due to some last minute changes we can’t. The only thing we can say is that we’re going to keep the current format, so each army should still be on just 1-2 pages as they are now.

Because there are a grand total of 86 files to be updated we won’t be able to do it all at once, so instead we’re going to be gradually releasing the new look as we go. Don’t worry though, all armies are going to continue to be available, so if your army is at the bottom of the list you’re not going to be left out whilst we do this.

Below you can see the order we’re going to be tackle the armies in. This is going to be done in 4 waves, each one updating about 20 files. If everything goes according to plan I will release a new wave every 2 weeks, else I will release a new wave every 4 weeks.

Grimdark Future

Wave 1 – Battle Brothers & Detachments, Orc Marauders, Human Defense Force, Alien Hives, TAO Coalition

Wave 2 – Havoc Brothers & Disciples, Robot Legions, Battle Sisters, Dwarf Guilds, Mercenaries

Wave 3 – Soul-Snatchers, Titan Lords, High Elf Fleets, Wormhole Daemons, Machine Cult

Fantasy-Dwarves-2

Upcoming Balance Changes

Since we’re going to have to touch up every single army in the game anyway we’re going to be taking this opportunity to make some balance changes to the game.

We’re not going to go into too much detail yet, that is something we’ll reserve for future weekly news posts, but you should know that we’re going to be reviewing every single unit and army to see if they need a re-balancing. If you felt like your army was lacking in some oomph you’ll probably get it with these changes. :)

The changes that are coming aren’t going to be too big, as this is not a switch to 3rd edition, but they’re going to be significant enough that you’re going to feel a difference.

The biggest things that you can expect are some much needed reviews of weapon upgrade lists to give units more tools to work with, a complete overhaul of all spell lists to make them more balanced and consistent, and overall a lot of standardization across the board to make units feel appropriate for their type.

Note that also these changes are all going to be points balanced with the current armies, so just because your army will be updated on wave 4 doesn’t mean that suddenly it’s not viable anymore or that you will be at a disadvantage.

Game Updates & Patch Notes

Finally let’s get to this month’s big game updates!

As always there’s a ton of stuff here, so let me just highlight the most important changes:

  • Psychics and Wizards can now either cast a spell or block a spell each round, and we’ve modified the way blocking works so that level 3 casters have a better chance at blocking than level 1 casters
  • In skirmish games we clarified that when splitting melee attacks between multiple models they all get to strike back
  • Also in skirmish rout tests are now taken at the end of the round, this way special rules that affect morale until the end of the round still apply
  • Another skirmish one, when units with Tough(X) are stunned but haven’t taken at least X wounds yet, shooting hits and charges won’t instantly kill them, but instead they will take an additional wound
  • For supporters on Patreon, the Command & Control rules from the Full Rulebooks have been re-worked to be clearer

Alright that’s enough, now to the full patch notes:

General

  • Clarified that markers become neutral if both players are seizing them at the end of the round
  • Modified the Psychic/Wizard rules so that they can either cast or block a spell each round, and they must roll higher than the caster to block

Firefight & Skirmish

  • Clarified that when attacking multiple units in melee they all get to strike back
  • Rout Tests are now taken at the end of he round
  • Clarified that Blast weapons now spread hits among targets within 3″
  • Flying units may now jump gaps without having to roll for it
  • Tough units that take hits or are charged whilst Stunned take 1 wound instead of being Knocked Out, unless they already have X wounds
  • Damage from Falling was re-worked to affect high defense units more

Campaign Rules

  • Clarified the Suppressor hero specialization trait
  • Heroes become 5pts more expensive for each specialization trait they get

Worshippers of the Spire have arrived!

Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

To continue with our skirmish games extravaganza, today we bring you lots of cool new stuff for Age of Fantasy Skirmish!

Worshippers of the Spire

With last week’s release of the new Campaign Rules we wanted to give players some extra warbands to mess around with and fully explore the possibilities of epic narratives that come out of campaign games, so we’re happy to present to you the Worshippers of the Spire.

The Worshippers of the Spire are fanatic followers of the evil god known as THE SPIRE, with each of the 6 warbands focusing on a different obsession which they believe will make them worthy of entering the eternal battlefields of the spire.

So of course they spend all of their time just killing each other… as one does…

There is something for everyone here, with every warband bringing different fun mechanics to the game, so make sure to check them all out and pick your favorite!

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

In order to give you an extra incentive to try out the new warbands, we’ve created a set of Quickplay Armies to go with them, so if you’ve been on the fence about trying out the campaign rules you have no excuse anymore! ;)

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Golem Worshippers vs Beast Worshippers

Golem Worshippers

  • 1x Golem Dominator
  • 1x Legion Master
  • 1x Dwarf Armourer
  • 1x Spine Crusher
  • 3x Legionaries w/ 1x Spiked Bolas
  • 1x Golem Ogre

Beast Worshippers

  • 1x Cannibal Leader
  • 1x Beast Whisperer
  • 1x Fang Champion
  • 2x Hunter Champion
  • 3x Runners
  • 1x Cockatrice
  • 1x Horned Lion

The Golem Worshippers in this set focus on powerful heroes and special units, which brutally crush their enemies whilst also being pretty tough to kill. The list comes with a Golem Ogre that easily destroys even the mightiest of foes thanks to its double Great Weapons, as well as with a Legion Master that can strike multiple foes at a distance with its Whirling Strike attack.

The Beast Worshippers on the other side focus on a mix of man and beast, bringing both a crazed Cockatrice and a mighty Horned Lion to the fight. The list focuses on synergies between special rules, with the Fang Champion being able to pull enemies closer with its Harpoon whilst the Beast Whisperer boosts nearby units to go in for a devastating melee attack.

Kitchen Table Skirmish

Finally user vvvvvendetta has created a set of Age of Fantasy Skirmish army lists inspired by Warhammer: Underworlds.

These lists are great for new players since they each only have 3-5 units, with easy to build models that don’t require a lot of painting time.

If you want you can even adapt the game a little to work using the provided hex boards, with each hex counting as 3″ distance. So for example units move 2 hexes, rush/charge actions are 4 hexes, bows fire up to 8 hexes, etc.

This actually allows you to play games even faster and on a smaller surface, so it’s perfect for a quick lunchtime match or playing on your kitchen table!

New Play Tokens, Prime Brothers Update & Quickplay Armies

Game Update, Quickplay Armies

Hi everyone,

As we already mentioned last week we’re going to be releasing new content every week for a little while so that we don’t overwhelm you, and this awesome stream of content is starting today!

Lately we’ve also been in a real skirmish vibe so you can expect a lot of cool stuff for GF: Firefight and AoF: Skirmish, as well as some extra goodies for the other games. ;)

New Play Tokens

The first thing we got for you is the release of a set of brand new OPR Play Tokens.

Back in the day we used to have some very basic play tokens we put together using icons we found online. These tokens were useful albeit not very pretty, so we’ve asked Brandon to put together a set of new tokens for everyone to enjoy!

Check them out here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1_KGDMZW6fpiwR1YRcAFSruFQfu6qq8cR

The tokens are 1″/25mm in size so they should be pretty easy to cut out and play. If you want to keep things simple you can print them on regular paper, stick them on a cereal box and then cut them out to get some fairly solid tokens, or else you can go a bit fancier and make some clear resin dome tokens.

Check out a tutorial here: https://youtu.be/CNPoyORCa3U

If you want a set of smaller tokens we’ve also made a 3/4″ version of the tokens which is perfect for playing skirmish games.

Check them out here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=16xDcGsVgb_qe8FfvnglRSBytRJQgx2iK

Again you can just print them out and use the cereal box method mentioned above, or if you want a more sturdy version you can also use Wyloch’s method below:

  1. Print the sheet using your printer’s best quality settings
  2. Use a good glue stick like Elmer’s X-treme to attach the sheet to a slab of cereal box or other similar cardstock
  3. Apply clear packing tape over the circles (poor man’s laminating)
  4. Cut out each circle individually with good scissors (this is the longest part)
  5. Small dab of hot glue on the back of a token, and then quickly attach it to a 3/4″ washer

We hope everyone enjoys these play tokens, they were made to be as neutral as possible so that you can use them for any setting or game, even non-OPR games! :D

Prime Brothers Update

In order to allow Prime Brothers to be upgraded with specific detachment rules they have been moved into the Battle Brothers army book, meaning that now you can create a ton of new cool combinations such as having Prime Blood Brothers that brutally tear apart enemies in melee with their Furious upgrade.

Additionally we have added a new unit, the Prime Light Walker.

The Prime Light Walker falls somewhere in-between an HDF Light Walker and a regular Attack Walker, giving up on some armor in order to be able to deploy with the Scout special rule, which is really dangerous as it comes equipped with a powerful Incendiary Cannon.

This makes the Prime Light Walker a formidable close-range machine of destruction which can dish out a whopping 12 flaming attacks as well as hold its own in melee thanks to its massive walker fist.

Oh, and it can also be upgraded with a cool Heavy MG Pistol, making it a formidable gunslinger and worthy of any wild west duel. ;)

We’ve also used this opportunity to make some other small updates:

Battle Brothers

– Support Brothers can now take Laser Cannons

Blood Brothers Detachment

– Fixed stats of Plasma Pistol and Gravity Pistol

– Fixed cost of Jetpack on Death Brothers

Prime Brothers Detachment

– Prime Brothers are now part of the Battle Brothers army

– Detachments now have upgrade options for Prime Brothers

– New Unit: Prime Light Walker

– Prime Bothers can now upgrade one model with Medical Training

Wolf Brothers Detachment

– Fixed cost of Wolf Jet

TAO Coalition

– Spotting Lasers now improve shooting for all units until the end of the round (Firefight)

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

In order to show you the power of this new Prime Brothers update (and also give the OPR Play Tokens a go) we’ve created a set of new Quickplay Armies for you to try.

This time around it’s a GF: Firefight matchup so if you’ve never played the game before it’s a great way to start thanks to its low model count and dynamic gameplay. :)

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Prime Wolf Brothers vs TAO Coalition

Prime Wolf Brothers

  • 2x Prime Raider w/ Grapnels & Counter-Attack
  • 3x Prime Raider w/ Auto-Rifle & Counter-Attack

TAO Coalition

  • 3x Grunt
  • 2x Grunt w/ EMP Grenades
  • 3x Grunt w/ Pulse Rifle
  • 1x Grunt w/ Pulse Carbine & Marker Drone
  • 1x Grunt Captain w/ Pulse Carbine, EMP Grenades & Marker Drone

The Prime Wolf Brothers in this set focus on strategic movement and melee attacks, using terrain to their advantage in order to close in with the enemy. All of their units are excellent in melee with 3 attacks, Fear and Counter-Attack, and some are even able to charge through difficult terrain and surprise their prey thanks to their Grapnels.

The TAO Coalition on the other hand focuses on a more long-ranged strategy, with a variety of specialized firearms for different situations. Their Marker Drones are extremely valuable to ensure that they deliver high-precision fusilades, and some of them even come equipped with EMP Grenades that can be devastating in melee.

New Point Calculator & Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies

Hello everyone,

Today we got two interesting topics for you: the new version of the Point Calculator and a new set of Quickplay Armies.

Something that became clear with the recent community survey is that many players suggest we create stuff that we have actually created already, simply because they’re unaware that these things exist.

The two biggest things that people requested are advanced rules for the games, as well as a way to calculate points for their own armies… which are things that are already available.

For advanced rules we already made a post giving more details on the Full Rulebooks, which you can find here: https://onepagerules.com/2019/06/27/full-rulebooks-more/

For the point calculator we’re going to use this news post to give you an idea of what we have and how to get it, so brace yourself!

New Point Calculator

So, what is the Point Calculator?

The Point Calculator is the system that we use to figure out the point costs for all units and weapons in the game and serves as the corner stone for our game engine.

The new version brings important changes to the Point Calculator by clarifying a lot of outstanding questions, re-writing a lot of serctions to be clearer and by adding new illustrations and background textures to the book.

With the Point Calculator you can create units from scratch, defining all of their traits like Quality, Defense and Special Rules. The book also comes with an exhaustive list of all Army Special Rules so that you can create virtually any type of unit you could ever dream of.

After having created your unit you can then equip it with custom weapons, which can be created just the way you like, modifying Range, Attacks, AP and Special Rules. This is a truly powerful tool as it allows you to go into as much or as little detail as you want, so you can mess around and forge insane weapons of war.

Finally the Point Calculator also comes with an extensive Designer’s Guidelines section, which explains the logic behind the creation of our Armies, Units and Weapons, so that you can create custom assets that fit in with the official armies we provide.

We’ve also included a large list of common weapons for you to use, as well as detailed explanations on how you can create units that work well by simply looking at your models and giving them the right stats.

Truly the Point Calculator is the best thing to have if you ever wanted to take our games to another level, or even use our base engine to create custom games of your own.

If you would like to access the Point Calculator check out our Patreon page and support us at Tier 3 or higher. Enjoy! :)

Quickplay Armies

Quickplay Armies are pre-made army lists designed to be ready to play out of the box, without the need to count point costs or create your own lists. They are the perfect thing to dip your toes into new armies and see if you like them!

Two ancient forces have been fighting for the souls of the fallen for centuries and finally meet to settle matters once and for all. This set of Quickplay Armies is very interesting because it features two armies that both have specific strengths and weaknesses against each other, so clashes are extremely deadly.

This week’s Quickplay Armies: Eternal Wardens vs Ghostly Undead

Eternal Wardens

  • 1x Arcane Lord w/ Great Gryph
  • 1x Enchanter Knight
  • 3x Sequitur Squad
  • 3x Evocation Squad
  • 3x Castigation Squad
  • 1x Ballista

Ghostly Undead

  • 1x Ghost Knight w/ Ghost Ram
  • 1x Ghost Knight w/ Cursed Lantern
  • 1x Ghost Executioner
  • 1x Ghost Jailor
  • 20x Ghost Horde w/ Command Group
  • 5x Glaive Stalkers w/ Command Group
  • 4x Ghost Reapers w/ 1x Death Bell

The Eternal Wardens in this set focus on a small but elite force of determined ghost hunters, which are few in numbers but extremely durable. Most units in the army have the Wizard rule, which allows them to cast powerful protection spells as well as take ghosts down easily by ignoring the Ethereal rule. These line troops are then supported by deadly marksmen and powerful artillery with the Ballista, which you should use to cover their advance and protect objectives.

The Ghostly Undead on the other hand focus a large horde of weak but relentless troops supported by on powerful heroes that excel at killing wardens. The Ghost Knight can give the Ghost Horde AP(1) with its Cursed Lantern, whilst the Ghost Jailor can ignore the enemy’s high defense with its Capture Soul ability. If you want to be more blunt the Ghost Executioner can easily chop heads with its Rending axe or else charge in with Ghost Reapers that multiply their attacks with Sweeping Strikes. There’s something for everyone…

Hope that you like them, if you have any suggestions please let us know. :)

Happy Wargaming!
