Dragon Empire now Available for Age of Fantasy

We’re happy to announce that the Dragon Empire Army Books are available on Army Forge, and ready for everyone to use in Age of Fantasy, Age of Fantasy: Skirmish, Age of Fantasy: Regiments and Age of Fantasy: Quest!

The all new Asian inspired fantasy faction features an army of mythical transformed soldiers and is a faction that our community has been asking for for a while. The Dragon Empire is ruled over by a nobility with the blood and scales of dragons, presiding over innumerable terracotta servants. Their military relies upon the unshakeable determination of their clay warriors to serve as a bulwark while their elite forces strike key points in the enemy line. They will sacrifice anything to earn the approval of their absent Emperor and safeguard his vacant throne until his return.

On the Table-Top

In play the Dragon Empire embraces its dual identity with a selection of affordable, but fragile Claysoul soldiers and more elite Dragonkin heroes and troops backed up with many mythical and fantastic beasts, weapons, and vehicles. This offers a lot of variety and build options for the army. Will you flood the field with legions of terracotta servants or will your army consist of a menagerie of monsters and legends?

Let's take a look at some of their stats:

Army-Wide Special Rule: Royal Warrior

“For each unmodified roll of 6 to hit when attacking, this model may roll +1 attack with that weapon. This rule doesn’t apply to newly generated attacks.”

Attacks can multiply quickly with their Royal Warrior special rule, granting new attack rolls on 6s to hit. This is especially useful for hordes of Claysoul units when rolling fists full of dice or the flurry of melee attacks that an Imperial Dragon can unleash on a charge.

Dragonkin Warriors

The Dragonkin warriors are the elite frontline core of the Dragon Empire, with Quality 4+ and Defense 4+, they are a reliable and sturdy base troop that are ready to hold the line or help break through an enemy front. Like all Dragonkin units, they also have the option to take the Spirit Balance upgrade on one of it’s units which grants them Vengeance, punishing any unit that destroys it and making your opponent think twice before committing their best units to eliminate them.

Claysoul Gunners

Here you can see just how fragile Claysoul units can be, in a lot of ways embracing their ‘glass cannon’ nature quite literally. However, like all Claysoul units, the Claysoul Gunners can choose to pay for the Reinforce Clay upgrade to buff their Defense by one, putting them more in line with other armies offerings. The Claysoul Gunners double up on attack rolls of 6 with their Relentless rule stacking with Royal Warrior meaning that a single lucky hit with this unit’s Matchlock Rifles could easily result in three hits!

Imperial Dragon

Dragons are a terrifying foe to face in any battle, and the Imperial Dragon is no exception. With a Breath Weapon, 10 total melee attacks, and Fear(2), any unit that is charged by the Imperial Dragon is going to be in for a world of hurt.

Imperial Lantern

This stable and Flying weapons platform provides the Dragon Empire highly mobile firepower wherever it’s needed most, especially with the optional Scout upgrade. The Shotgun Crew it has by default can be replaced with a slew of heavier weapon upgrades up to and including a Rocket Battery that can devastate a mass of troops across the table.

Where are the Minis?

The rules for the Dragon Empire are available now, and while we hope to release models for every army and faction in our games, we're not yet ready to release a miniature line for this army at this time. You're encouraged to use your favorite models that you think will fit the army best! So have fun playing with these new rules and we can't wait to see what Dragon Empire armies you put on your table top.

That was just a handful of the units you could include in your Dragon Empire army. The full rules for the army are available now on Army Forge, so jump over there, start building your forces, and have fun with the Dragon Empire today!

Happy Wargaming!
